2 The fourday OLÉ! (Orientation Launch Events) Weekend is the culmination of your Torero Countdown. We hope that during these four days you will begin to: SETTLE IN to your new community at USD, whether it s in your residence hall room, the classrooms, the commuter commons or the dining halls. CONNECT WITH your fellow classmates, faculty and student leaders who will help you as you begin your journey at USD. BELONG TO your new community. This weekend is a time to welcome our new community members and help you feel that you belong here. This program booklet contains all the information you need to navigate each day of the OLÉ! Weekend program and includes the following: A daybyday guide to the OLÉ! Weekend student program Find out where you need to be each day and what will happen. LUNCH Lunch is available for new students and their family members on campus. New students eat for free at Pavilion Dining in the Student Life Pavilion (SLP) with their name tag. FIRST GENERATION STUDENT AND FAMILY LUNCHEON The College Transition: What Parents and Families of First Generation College Students Can Expect Hahn University Center (UC), Forums A, B and C This event is by invitation only. Noon 3:30 p.m. The One Stop Student Center has representatives from Student Accounts, the Office of Financial Aid and the Registrar available to answer your questions. Note: Students needing schedule changes will meet with their preceptorial advisors on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to discuss schedule changes. The One Stop Student Center does not handle schedule changes during OLÉ! Weekend. USD TORERO STORE Loma Hall, First Floor; Sat. 8 a.m. 7 p.m., Sun. 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Visit USD Torero Store to buy your books, supplies, technology and USD apparel. If you ordered your textbooks online, your order will be available for pickup during the normal hours of operation. The pickup location for preordered textbooks is Loma Hall lobby. Enter the building at the south side. MAIL CENTER Law School Parking Lot (next to Loma Hall); Sat. and Sun. 9 a.m. 2 p.m. If you are living on campus, visit the Mail Center to pickup any packages sent to your university address. PARKING SERVICES Table in front of Hahn University Center (UC), 8 a.m. 3 p.m. Visit the Parking Services table in front of the UC for assistance with parking permits. Parking permits are available for purchase online at parking. U.S. BANK Hahn University Center (UC), Room 125; Sat. 8 a.m. 5 p.m., Sun. 8 a.m. 1 p.m. Visit the oncampus U.S. Bank branch to open an account or ask your banking questions. ITS HELP DESK Look for ITS tables on Saturday at the Camino patio, Maher foyer and Mission Crossroads for tech support. Sunday, visit the main office in the Hahn University Center (UC), room 117 from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. ELECTRONICS RECYCLING CENTER 5330 Linda Vista Road; Sat. 9 a.m. 4 p.m. USD is committed to a Green MoveIn. Before you buy new, be sure to check out the Electronics Recycling Center to purchase gently used items for your residence hall room. 4

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AND FAMILY DINNER Student Life Pavilion (SLP), Third Floor Courtyard This event is by invitation only. 5 6:30 P.M. NEW STUDENT AND FAMILY DINNERS All students must be at their LLC dinner location at 6:10 p.m. for a program. After the program, you will be escorted by your RA to the evening activities. There will be four dinner locations based on your Living Learning Community (LLC). Natural World; Sustainability: Camino Patio Social Justice; Faith and Reason: Garden of the Sea (IPJ) Honors; Intersections; Globalization: Eagan Plaza (JCP) Change; Space, Place and Sound: Fowler Park New students do not need to purchase tickets. Your name tag will serve as your ticket. Family members and guests who did not prepurchase tickets may purchase tickets at the Hahn University Center Ticket Office. Saturday dinner tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for youths 12 and under. Other ticket options are available. Inquire at the ticket office, open 9 a.m.5:30 p.m. The Welcome Team helping students during movein. Notes: 6:45 11 P.M. FIRST USD Presented by Residence Hall Association (RHA) Residence Hall Floors; Check with your resident assistant for specific locations. The evening events will be facilitated by your resident assistant (RA) and preceptorial assistant (PA). All students are required to attend. CHOOSE YOUR CAMPUS ADVENTURE Please see the Choose YOUR Campus Adventure insert to learn more about the different activities taking place on campus. Select one or two activities, depending on time, and dress accordingly. 1 3:30 P.M. LGBTQ AND ALLIES ICE CREAM SOCIAL Mission Crossroads Back Lawn Interested in USD s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and ally community? Join students of PRIDE and members of the Rainbow Educator program for informal conversation, ice cream sundaes and tiedying your own Tshirts (shirts provided). However you identify yourself, everyone is welcome, including families! 4 5:30 P.M. MASS OF WELCOME ALL ARE INVITED Jenny Craig Pavilion (JCP) A very special Mass has been prepared to welcome all new students and their families into the USD community. All denominations are welcome and encouraged to attend. At the conclusion of the Mass, families will have the opportunity to take part in the USD tradition of blessing their students as they begin their college experience. This is the final OLÉ! Weekend parent and family event. It s time to say your goodbyes! Hug your family one more time today. They re missing you already! 6 6:45 P.M. DINNER WITH YOUR PRECEPTORIAL ASSISTANT (PA) Manchester Field (below Fowler Park) You will have a designated group number based on your preceptorial class. Look for your preceptorial assistant (PA) holding up your group number on Manchester Field. Please see the Manchester Field map insert. 7 7:45 P.M. SPACE, PLACE AND SOUND LLC OFFCAMPUS EXPERIENCE Members of the Space, Place and Sound LLC will meet in front of the Hahn University Center (UC) to board buses for an offcampus experience. 9:30 A.M. NOON USD WITH YOUR RESIDENT ASSISTANT (RA) AND LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITY (LLC) Your resident assistant (RA) will walk you to your designated meeting location. Please refer to the Be USD insert for your meeting location. NOON 1:30 P.M. LUNCH After lunch don t forget to pick up your LLC Tshirt in front of the SLP. You will wear this shirt to your LLC meeting and the evening activities. 1:30 2:30 P.M. FREE TIME Use this time to relax before your afternoon meeting and activities! Explore campus, hang out with new friends or take a nap. Don t forget to change into your LLC Tshirt and grab a sweater or jacket for the San Diego Zoo as you will not have a chance to return to your room between your LLC meeting and boarding buses for the zoo. 2:30 4 P.M. LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITY (LLC) MEETINGS Please wear your LLC Tshirt and remember to bring a light sweater or jacket as you will be going straight to the San Diego Zoo from your LLC meeting location. NOON PRECEPTORIAL MEETING Please refer to your name tag for your meeting location. You will meet with your preceptor (faculty advisor) and your preceptor might treat this as your first formal class session. NOON 1:15 P.M. LUNCH 1:30 2:45 P.M. SMALL GROUP MEETING WITH YOUR PRECEPTORIAL ASSISTANT (PA) Please refer to your name tag for your meeting location. 3 4 P.M. SLP STUDENT LIFE PAVILION A focal point of student life and dining on campus. Pavilion Dining, La Gran Terraza restaurant, O Tooles Lounge, Tu Mercado and several student organization offices can be found here. HARRY POTTER ROOM MOTHER ROSALIE HILL READING ROOM Located on the main floor of Copley Library, this is a silent study room open to students and the campus community during library hours. SYE ABROAD SECOND YEAR IPJ JOAN B. KROC INSTITUTE FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE This building is home to several academic programs and houses classrooms and meeting spaces. JCP JENNY CRAIG PAVILION Home to several USD athletic teams, including men s and women s basketball and volleyball. It is also used for large special events, new student convocation and commencement. LLC LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITY An organization charged with coordinating student programs and events held on campus. TU MERC TU MERCADO A fullservice grocery store, deli and coffee bar located on the second floor of the Student Life Pavilion. UC HAHN UNIVERSITY CENTER This building houses various department offices, conference rooms and lounge areas. MISH CAF MISSIONS CAFÉ Located in the valley by the Mission Crossroads office, this is a great place to grab a meal or snack. UFMC UNITED FRONT MULTICULTURAL CENTER This center engages the USD community The Department of Public Safety is located on the south side of the Hughes Administration Center and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help with emergency situations. PA PRECEPTORIAL ASSISTANT A special opportunity for students to study abroad. Students apply during their first year and travel together with their cohort during Intersession of their sophomore year. TPB TORERO PROGRAM BOARD Your assigned community that unites your preceptorial course and your residential area under a common theme. PSAFE PUBLIC SAFETY EXPERIENCE ABROAD in exploring and affirming the unique identity of each person and serves as an educational resource for students, faculty and staff. It s located in the Student Life Pavilion, room 418. THE VALLEY MISSIONS A AND B, SAN A successful continuing student who assists your preceptorial class and serves as a mentor to you during your first year.
