2 Cuivre River Electric Cooperative A Touchstone Energy Cooperative Your Cooperative Cuivre River Electric Cooperative (CREC) follows the seven cooperative principles: 1. Open Membership 2. Democratic Control 3. Economic Participation 4. Autonomy and Independence 5. Education 6. Cooperation Among Cooperatives 7. Concern for Community Because CREC is your business, you have a share in capital that remains at the end of the year after all expenses for furnishing your energy have been satisfied. When the equity level is high and CREC s financial position is strong, the Board of Directors may authorize that credits be paid to you. You have a vote! Be sure to attend the Annual Meeting and participate in the selection of the Board of Directors. Your Electric Service Emergency Calls: When calling to report an electric emergency, give your name, address, telephone number, and member number to help us find you as quickly as possible. Do not approach downed power lines or trees in power lines. Call for assistance. Reporting a power outage: All phone lines accept emergency calls 24 hours a day. If phones are busy, other members may also be out of service. Public safety and health are top priorities, and crews will work to restore electric service as quickly and safely as possible. Medic Alert: Please inform us if life support equipment is in use at your home. You may qualify for Medic Alert status (physician s statement required). Electric Safety: Missouri s 10-foot rule requires you to notify your electric service provider before working within 10 feet in any direction from a power line. Call CREC before you work near overhead lines, or call DIGRITE (Missouri One-Call) to locate underground lines. Meter Safety: Your electric meter connects energized power lines to your home. If your meter requires service or disconnection, trained CREC employees are available to assist. Any unauthorized person who attempts to remove a meter risks personal injury and violates the law. Your Community Electric safety, energy instruction and cooperative education programs are available to help improve public safety and increase energy awareness. Operation Round Up is a community outreach program CREC members support by making their monthly payment an even dollar amount. Voluntary tax-deductible monthly donations per member average about $6 per year. Members have already provided over $4.5 million, just pennies at a time, to help thousands of neighbors in need. The Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. provides high school juniors an opportunity to win a trip to our nation s capitol by entering an essay contest. Economic Development is a focus as CREC works to help secure low energy rates for business, industry, agriculture and residential consumers while providing economic opportunities for local communities. Energy Services Power Quality Plus: Storms, unexpected weather events and traffic accidents can send unwanted lightning and power surges across electric, telephone and cable lines. To help consumers prevent damage to home appliances and office equipment, CREC offers Power Quality Plus for lightning and surge protection. Green Power: If you wish to support Green Power with renewable energy alternatives, CREC can purchase a portion of your power from regional wind and biomass projects for just a few cents more per kilowatt-hour (kwh). Your Electric Bill Your bill is mailed about the same time each month, within days. Payment options include: Pay in person.
