The Hokies will welcome Colorado College to town on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and will face UNC Greensboro Sunday, at 4 p.m. Webcast: Both matches this weekend will be broadcast via the Internet on hokietv.com. Jerry Massey will handle the play-by-play responsibilities with 1994 World Cup participant, Michael Emenalo, providing the color commentary. Prior to that defeat, CC had won its fi rst fi ve matches of the season. Sophomore forward Amara Wilson leads the Tiger offense with fi ve goals and an assist this season. In net, freshman Geneva Sills has posted four shutouts, including a 1-0 triumph over previously ranked Nebraska on Friday. 2 About the Spartans: UNC Greensboro also enters the weekend coming off two straight wins. The Spartans will take on Wake Forest Friday evening before facing Tech on Sunday. Nicollette DeLaine and Cara Hammond are tied for the team lead with four points each, while Katherine Ryan and Jennifer Stillman have split time in net this season. Stillman has seen a majority of the playing time, posting a 0.74 goals against average and a pair of shutouts. Head coach Eddie Radwanski is in his fi fth year with the team and has a mark at the institution. The Spartans return nine starters from last year's squad, which fi nished overall. UNCG leads the all-time series 2-1, but fell in the last meeting, 3-2, in UNCG on the web: Last Week: Virginia Tech climbed back above.500 last weekend, taking a pair of matches at the Quality Inn & Suites Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston. The Hokies took down the host Cougars, 2-0, on Friday evening. True freshman Mauri Liberati and senior Shannon Poach provided the offense for Tech. Junior Mallory Soldner made three saves in net for her second shutout of the year. On Sunday, Erin Moore's unassisted goal was all the offense the Hokies would need in a 1-0 victory over Wofford. No help necessary: All three Hokie goals over the weekend were of the unassisted variety. Of Tech's last fi ve goals, four of them have come without the benefi t of an assist. Finding EMO: Sophomore Erin Moore's fi rst goal of 2005 could not have come at a better time. The 5-foot-8 forward's blast from 15 yards out broke a scoreless tie in the 59th minute Sunday, pacing the Hokies to a 1-0 win. It was Moore's fi rst game-winning tally since Sept. 6 of last year. Dynamite Debut: Redshirt-freshman Ashley Owens made her collegiate debut Sunday and blanked Wofford, 1-0. Owens was not challenged in her 90 minutes in net, needing to make no saves for the shutout. Non-conference call: With the two victories over the weekend, Kelly Cagle moved her all-time record in nonconference games to (.700). Cagle's record is even more impressive in home contests, as her teams are unbeaten in their last nine non-league matches at the Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium. 3 Sports Information Office Movin on up: With the pair of victories over the weekend, Tech jumped to sixth in the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic Region poll. This matches Tech's highest ranking ever in the region poll. Last season the Hokies were ranked sixth in the region from Sept. 27-Oct. 11. Looking Ahead: The Hokies will open their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule on the road, as the team travels to Duke on Thursday, Sept. 22 and to Wake Forest on Sunday, Sept. 25. Spotlight of the Week Erin Moore Sophomore Erin Moore, a forward/midfielder from Poolesville, Md., recorded the game-winning goal in last Sunday's 1-0 triumph over Wofford. Moore, who has battled injuries this season, broke a scoreless tie in the 59th minute of the contest with a shot from 15 yards away. Last season, Moore scored two goals and collected seven assists en route to being selected to the All-Mid-Atlantic Freshman and second team All-VaSID honors. "I was happy to see Erin play like this (Sunday), she totally created the goal on her own," Tech head coach Kelly Cagle said. Cagle led Virginia Tech to an record, setting the school record for wins in a season. Before her second season, she and her staff worked tirelessly, signing the 24thranked incoming class nationally according to SoccerBuzz.com. A Duke University alum, Cagle looks to take her team further into the NCAA Championship Tournament as they continue play in the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference women s soccer league a league she is familiar with after her playing days at Duke and a coaching stint at Wake Forest. Cagle spent two seasons with the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA before taking the reins in Blacksburg. Before being selected in the 10th round of the WUSA draft, Cagle served as an assistant coach at Wake Forest, where she was the recruiting coordinator. During her stint at Wake Forest, the Demon Deacons were an ACC finalist in 1999 and made four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Wake Forest was a Top- 20 program from Prior to her time at Wake Forest, Cagle was an assistant coach at the University of Texas during the 1996 season. She was also a coach in the Atlanta Youth Soccer Association where she was the co-director of the youth developmental program and also of summer camps in From , Cagle was co-director of the Tony da Luz Soccer Camp. Cagle is a 1996 graduate of Duke with a degree in sociology and was a four-year letterwinner in soccer. She was a three-time All-American and All-ACC selection in 1993, 1994 and Cagle was the ACC Player of the Year in 1995 and a finalist for national player of the year as a junior and senior. During her senior year in 1995, she was the team captain and was selected to the ACC 50th Anniversary Soccer Team. She was named to the list of top-10 athletes at Duke for the decade of the 1990s. Cagle has extensive coaching experience at various levels and earned her National C license in She is assisted by husband, Dan Cagle, and Erin Emenalo this season.
