Campus Program Update Prepared June 2015 for CATMA Introduction This report provides membership and usage data for our campus program, which we support in partnership with CATMA, UVM, and Champlain College. The reporting period is August 1 through April 30. Membership To recap the academic year, 319 campus affiliates joined or renewed their memberships with CarShare Vermont this included 264 affiliates from UVM and 55 from Champlain. At UVM, we exhausted our original pool of 200 subsidized memberships in August and were very pleased that the school agreed to increase the number of memberships to 300; we came close to hitting this goal! Since October 2014, the start date of our current contract with CATMA, 161 campus affiliates have joined CarShare Vermont. The majority of these members are from UVM (118), with the remainder from Champlain College (43). Despite this discrepancy between enrollments at the two schools, it should be noted that more Champlain College affiliates have joined CarShare Vermont to date this year compared to last. This indicates that the program is gaining steam at Champlain, slowly but surely. At present, we have 297 active campus members. The discrepancy between the current membership number and the number of applicants who joined since October is a result of some campus members terminating their memberships since joining. Campus affiliates continue to make up the greatest percentage of our member quits (56%). Similarly, they make up a strong portion of our new applicants, now accounting for 49%. We are very pleased with enrollment in our campus program this year. As usual, students make up the majority of campus members, and most are new subscribers rather than renewals. Campus affiliates account for 32% of our total membership. Below is a breakdown of campus members who have joined since October by school and affiliation (student vs. faculty/staff). Campus Faculty/Staff Student Total UVM Champlain Total 161 1
Utilization Utilization among our campus members has been very good. The graph below shows activity (number of trips taken) by our campus affiliates between August 1 and April 30. While most campus affiliates have used our vehicles at least three times, 42% are among our more active members taking two to three trips per month. Usage of Active Campus Members! 22%! 33%! 12+ trips! 6-11 trips! 3-5 trips! 1-2 trips! 20%! 25%! The campus members continue to take the majority of their trips in the vehicles at UVM and Champlain, but they do utilize our entire network. The chart below shows the number of trips taken in all of our vehicles, comparing campus to non-campus members (the Y axis represents the number of trips). The UVM cars are especially favored by campus affiliates; they also went on the most unique trips during the period. 2
Fleetwide Campus v. Non-Campus Trips! 700! 600! 500! 400! 300! 200! 100! 0! Non-Campus Trips! Campus Trips! As shown above, CarShare Vermont currently has 15 vehicles at 14 pod locations in Burlington and Winooski. The graph does not reflect our new pilot project in Montpelier, where we now have two vehicles. In June, we plan to add another downtown Burlington location, bringing our fleet total to 18. The chart below provides an overview of our fleetwide utilization, which is measured by hours reserved per day per vehicle. Fleetwide Usage! Hours/Day! Curtis Lumber (TRUCK)! Spruce&Union / Flynn Ave. Coop! West Hall (CHAMP)! North & North! Morrill/Redstone (UVM)! Morrill Hall (UVM)! Fletcher Free Library! Spinner Place in Winooski! Church St. Garage! North Winooski Ave! Callahan Park! Main St.! Top of Church St.! Innovation Center! Callahan Park (MINI-VAN)! 3
As the chart above reflects, we now have three officially on-campus pods two at UVM and one at Champlain College (we have other vehicles near the campuses, including at the Innovation Center on Lakeside Ave.). All of the campus vehicles performed well during the period between August and April. Miles, our Morrill Hall car, was our third top performing in our fleet, while Orion (Redstone) was our fifth. The chart below shows our revenue from usage by campus and non-campus members this includes hours and miles driven and no other fees (e.g. membership fees, penalties, etc.). Campus affiliates make up 32% of our membership and contribute 34% of our driving revenue. % of Fleetwide Revenue (hr +mi)! 34%! 66%! Campus! Non-Campus! Marketing and Outreach CarShare Vermont continues to partner with CATMA to implement a far-reaching outreach strategy on both campuses. Below is an overview of the various activities we undertake each semester. In addition, we wanted to share information about a new campaign called LetsShare that we launched in January with the goal of increasing membership by 25% among younger people (under the age of 35). As part of LetsShare, we recruited a team of eight fun, well-connected people under 35 and offered them free driving excursions in exchange for showcasing their adventures on social media. Two of our most effective team members were from UVM a student and staff member. In just five months, we are halfway toward our goal of increasing our membership by 25%. We recently recruited our second team of LetsShare participants and feature three UVM affiliates (two students and a staff member). We will keep you posted as the campaign progresses. 4

committed to investing the time and resources needed to help car-sharing take off on campus. We will continue to work with CATMA and college staff to identify new marketing opportunities and support new policies that advance our joint missions. We remain open to feedback from all parties. We are excited about the academic year and look forward to working with our partners to support sustainable transportation on both campuses! 7
