1 Happy New Year Hornet Fans! Preseason is right around the corner and this year our schedule is filled with tough opposition as well as the traditional MEAC rivalries. The Hornets will be traveling to South Carolina for their opening weekend followed by a week long trip to Georgia and Florida during spring break. This is where the Hornets are going to meet their toughest opponents with schools such as Ohio State, UCF, and #12 ranked Georgia. The Hornets will then open MEAC play at home against UMES on March 18 in Dover, Delaware. Come out and support us as we look to win our 4th consecutive MEAC Northern Division Title and work towards a MEAC Championship.

2 Congratulations to the Hornet Softball Team for a job well done in the classroom this semester! Thirteen of our student athletes made the honor roll (3.0 and above), seven made the Dean s List (3.5), and six made the President s List (4.0). The team s term G.P.A was a Keep up the great work ladies. We love the hard work on and off of the field. Delaware State Softball Program needs your support and ask that you join the Hornet Softball Homerun Club. By joining, alumni, family, friends and fans have the opportunity to support Delaware State softball players as they strive to become champions on the field, in the classroom and in the community. We need your support to generate the funds and community necessary to help Delaware State softball program grow and flourish among the top Division 1 programs in the nation. Last year, the Hornets had a successful season with an overall record of (16-2 in conference). With several key players returning, and the addition of 6 freshmen, the Hornets look forward to a successful 2017 season. As a supporter of the Softball Homerun Club you will receive a gift based on your donation level. We thank you for your support. 3 Congratulations to our Underclassmen team who won our MEAC Challenge. This was a week long events that tested the Hornets strength, endurance, and teamwork. Hornets volunteer at the annual Boys & Girls Club Tukey Drive. They handed out Turkeys and Thanksgiving Baskets to those in need. Our team volunteered this Halloween at the Governor Bacon Health Center. The GBHC specializes in serving persons with cognitive impairments and/or behavioral challenges who have no other options for their care. They assisted with their fall festival by greeting guest.

4 Our Labor Day party was filled with activities and games to welcome our players back to school. We also want to send a big thank you to Mrs. Cummings for providing the cookie cake and other awesome desserts and treats. Our freshmen had the opportunity to be recognized as incoming student athletes at freshmen orientation. Jasmine Melgoza also represented the team during the freshmen dance-off! This fall, our team had the opportunity to learn Archery as a team building event. Everyone had a great time learning a new skill. I thought it was fun and cool to learn something new. 5 Our Alumni Game this year was a success. We had Alumni join us from a variety of years ( 92-16). After a fun but hard fought battle, our Alumni came out on top by a score of 4-3. It was great to catch up with everyone and to join together for a meal after the game. Thank you to all of the parents who helped prepare the tailgate and team cookout. 6 Major: Biology with a minor in Chemistry Position: OF Jersey #10 Hometown Smyrna, DE Current Job and Location: Postdoctoral Fellow at the US Environmental Protection Agency in Durham, NC where I work as a toxicologist studying the health effects of air pollution. Family? Just got married this past July to my wife, Sarah, who I've been with for 9 years. No kids yet but we have a golden retriever (Maya) and tabby cat (Trixie) who are our fur babies. What did you do after graduation? I went to graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I received my PhD in Toxicology. What do you miss most about DSU? I miss my teammates the most both on and off the field. The lifelong friendships I cemented with those girls and the memories we made during my time at DSU are unforgettable and I ll cherish them forever. Favorite thing about your time at DSU... The bus trips, away tournaments at Hawaii and Las Vegas, the night of our epic scavenger hunt, dorm parties with other DSU teams, and our big upset win against the University of Delaware my freshman year are some of my fondest memories.
