5 B. Cost of Additional Paid Day for 200-Day Employees Board Memo # (Tab 11) The cost of extending the 200-day employee contracts by one day is approximately $285,159. This amount includes the daily rate, social security, retirement, and workers compensation for both professional and service employees. In addition, legal counsel has advised that this extension would become an obligation of the board in future years only if, in authorizing it for this year, the county board somehow makes the extra day a part of the employees contracts. This could happen implicitly, without actually mending the written contracts and for that very reason the board should be very cautious about approving and implementing the extra day of compensation. The extra day must also be optional and not required. I am providing this information for your consideration. IX. OLD BUSINESS CONSENT (None) X. BUILDING PROGRAM (Action Needed) A.
