AIHA Internet Resources Digest Supporting Access to High Quality Online Resources Spotlight on: EBM Multimedia Resources February 2015 Multimedia resources that are available online for free (video lectures, interviews, audio files, podcasts, PowerPoint presentations) can help to better understand the principles and practice of evidence-based medicine and also can be very useful in teaching (both in classroom and through distance training courses). History of EBM Evidence-Based Medicine: An Oral History Chapter 1. The Past (21 Chapter 2. The Present (14 Chapter 3. The Future (13 JAMA and the BMJ invited 6 individuals who have played a prominent part in the development of EBM to participate in an oral history event and filming. Videos of this event and of interviews with 3 other EBM leaders have been woven together. Richard Smith discusses the history of Evidence-based Medicine with Iain Chalmers, Kay Dickersin, Paul Glasziou, Muir Gray, Gordon Guyatt, Brian Haynes, Drummond Rennie and David Sackett. The video features EBM leaders perspectives on the past, present, and future of EBM, along with personal reflections of clinical and patient encounters and shared decision making in the context of EBM. The video makes clear that much has been achieved, but that much remains to be done. http://ebm.jamanetwork.com/ http://jama.jamanetwork.com/ article.aspx?articleid=1817042 (editorial)

These short videos (5-10 minutes each) are based around nearly a hundred interviews with Cochrane contributors from all over the world. http://anniversary.cochrane.org/home Practising EBM Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine - The Paul Glasziou Files Podcast A series of interviews with proponents of evidence-based medicine and evidence-based practice from around the world. Experts in their fields answer important questions about how they are using and incorporating EBM into their busy day-to-day schedules. These recordings provide a unique insight of how the latest clinical evidence can be used to influence medical practice in the real world. http://www.podcast.co.no/centre-forevidence-based-medicine-the-paulglasziou-files-podcast-218044/ Evidence-Based Practice and the Future of Nursing Presentation by Suzanne Prevost, RN, PhD Associate Dean for Practice University of Kentucky College of Nursing President-Elect Sigma Theta Tau International. From the Therapeutics Initiative based at the University of British Columbia (6 min video) https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=oea_okqqbj4 Evidence-based Decision Making In part 1 of these lectures, Professor Neal Maskrey describes how our decision making is a key factor in why the quality of the clinical care we provide may vary. He presents

Page 3 many amusing and thought provoking illustrations of how cognitive biases affect our everyday decision making, based on over 40 years of research and the work of two Nobel prize winners. In part 2 of these lectures, Jonathan Underhill discusses how we cope with clinical information overload and how we can go about selecting the best evidence to support our decision making. He then helps us think about some possible solutions to help us stay up to date in an efficient manner and how we can perhaps make decisions better by being aware of our cognitive biases.
