Furthermore, the emergency department runs a 16 bed Clinical Decision Unit managed by the Emergency Consultants. The Gastroenterology is a tertiary referral centre for IBD and ERCP/endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). The post entails working closely with the abdominal surgery department in managing complex IBD patients. The post will provide exposure to complex IBD and hepatobiliary conditions. The Foundation doctor will be encouraged to present cases for discussion at the weekly IBD and benign pancreaticobiliary MDMs. Weekly F2 lecture teaching sessions take place on Fridays. Experience of care of IBD patients in their community will be gained by one day/week attachments with the IBD CNSs. The FY2s currently rotate to either diabetes or clinical toxicology for 2-3 individual stand alone weeks during there 4 month. It is planned that the diabetes week will be based with the community diabetes team and that instead of the toxicology week, the FY2 will instead work either with the community @home team or the community ageing and health team. The consultant attached to the team will be your clinical supervisor for the whole. Main duties of the Typical working pattern in this (e.g. ward rounds, clinics, theatre sessions) Ward rounds and ward duties as above On call commitments Day admitting, twilight, and ward cover as per below Usually 0900-1700 Monday to Friday Approximately 1 long day per week more often when on acute week on the AAW Admitting 0800-2100 Twilight 0900-2100 Ward cover 0900-2100 NB Morning post take ward round starts at 0800 and afternoon rolling post take round starts at 1500 Approx 1 in 3 single-day weekend on-calls (0800-2100) Approx 2 night shift every 4 weeks (2000-0930) with day before and after off. During night shifts, the FY2 will be responsible for clerking new admissions and will be supported by the ST3+ and SNP team 9 days annual leave per 4 month rotation (Total 27 days per annum) All posts come with allocated leave; this is not fixed and can be swapped with other FY2s in medicine. This ensures that you will have all of the appropriate leave for this post. In the circumstances of lieu days (e.g. bank holidays), these need to be taken within this rotation and will need to be agreed with the rest of the team. In exceptional circumstances you Page 2 of 3

may be able to carry leave over to other components of the rotation, but this will need to be agreed in advance with the relevant supervisors for each post. This is a multiorgan disorder and whilst much of the involves managing acute painful crisis, there is also the need for multidisciplinary working and the care of acutely unwell patients with other complications eg chest complications, renal complications, stroke. They will also be involved in reviewing patients with sickle cell disease who are under other teams in the hospital eg surgical and obstetric teams. These patients often have complicated psychosocial needs and they learn how to manage patients with complicated long term conditions.
