Historical Background The name Wathaurong (Wadda-Warrung) is a recognised tribe (community) which consisted of some 25 clans (family groups) that formed part of the Kulin Nation of Aboriginal people. The traditional boundaries of the Wathaurong people span the coastline from the Werribee River to Lorne peninsula and traverse inland in a north westerly direction towards Ballarat. The Wathaurong people have lived within these regions for more than 25,000 years. As custodians of the Wathaurong lands, we are committed to working together to provide a secure future for our community by upholding the dignity of our ancestors; respecting our Elders and instilling a sense of cultural pride and elonging for our hildren and hildren s hildren. The Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative Ltd was formed by the community in 1978 and registered in 1980, to support the social, economic, and cultural development of Aboriginal people, particularly within the Geelong and surrounding areas. The Co-operative provides a range of services including; family and community services, support to young people, justice support services; cultural heritage services, and health services. From time to time the organisation also undertakes special projects and economic development opportunities. The Co-operative expanded to include a Community Controlled, which contributes toward addressing the inequality in health status of Aboriginal people. The Wathaurong Health Service supports the general well being of Aboriginal people by providing holistic health care with clinical and primary care services as well as health promoting activities. Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative Ltd is the largest employer of Aboriginal people within the Geelong region. Goals of Position The Dual Diagnosis clinician will enhance the effectiveness of the Wathaurong Aboriginal Health Services, in the management and treatment of people with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. A consortium comprising of Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative and Barwon Health has been established with the objective of trialling a new mental health treatment model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living within the Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative boundaries. This project is a regional project known as Darrabarrook Karndoor (New Track). This project will provide targeted evidence based culturally appropriate interventions for people aged between 16 and 64 experiencing moderate to severe mental illness or mental disorder. Wathaurong Mental will deliver an enhanced mental health service that utilises a centre based and an assertive outreach model of care to patients of the Wathaurong community who experience moderate to severe mental illness. In-reach services will be provided to clients who are engaged in specialist treatment services such as inpatient settings. This service will operate from the Wathaurong Duties & Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive assessment (including risk assessment) of clients using state-wide AOD assessment tools and/or tools agreed by the Consortium, and complete assessment reports and documentation as required Develop individual recovery plans with clients and assist in the identification of collaborative treatment goals across a range of Social and Emotional Wellbeing domains Participate in case management and service coordination practices with other professio als, supporti g the lie ts jour ey through relevant treatment services Provide effective and evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including case management, group therapy and brief intervention, using recovery-oriented principles which focus on holistic care Facilitate the delivery of therapeutic groups and brief intervention to clients as part of a holistic and harm minimisation treatment approach Undertake review and evaluation of clients using agreed tools by the Consortium Participate in case allocation, case review and exit planning processes Maintain high quality clinical case files and related data recording as per program requirements Be responsible for the assessment, referral and linkage of clients to tertiary mental health and residential drug treatment services. Provide advice and secondary consultations and facilitate referral through the intake and assessment service (face to face or via telephone/internet) Contribute to the support of clients who are waiting for service provision and assist in the management of waiting lists and service allocation Identifying client needs and readiness to change Building and maintaining motivation for change Page 2 of 5

Participate in external review requirements such as accreditation and risk management to enhance continuous quality improvement Participate in appropriate registered activities within the Ensure the health and safety of employees and other persons within the work environment Report all hazards, accidents or incidents which have resulted or may result in an injury to others or damage to property To be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures and to participate in regular training in safety procedures Key selection criteria Essential Relevant qualification in alcohol and other drugs (such as a Cert IV or Graduate Diploma) and demonstrated experience working in the drug and alcohol sector Recognised qualification in psychology, social work, mental health nursing or related field with specific skills and experience in case management Demonstrated skills and experience in AOD and mental health assessment and screening Excellent service co-ordination practices with internal and external service providers and the ability to provide holistic case management for clients presenting with a broad range of substance use and psychosocial needs Demonstrated high level of knowledge and understanding of the drug and alcohol treatment sector, the mental health sector and community support services The ability to maintain high level assessment documents, client records, reports and case notes Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team Demonstrated experience and skill in the provision of risk assessment and risk management Understanding of harm minimisation and reduction principles and ability to work with a recovery-oriented model Sound Knowledge of Aboriginal Culture, issues affecting Aboriginal people, and Aboriginal Service Sector Demonstrated experience in delivering brief interventions, individual counselling or therapeutic groups Current Victorian Drivers Licence Desirable Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Page 4 of 5
