AN INDIVIDUAL APPROACH TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sports Scholarships for 11+ entry in September 2019 www.manorhouseschool.org @ManorHseSchool manorhousesch

Our Senior Scholarship Programme seeks to attract and retain the best academic, sporting and creative and expressive arts scholars. Scholarships are awarded upon entry to the Senior School at Year 7 and are applicable from September 2019. Candidates are officially assessed in November 2018 (Year 6) at age 10-11 and must sit our Entrance Examinations in January 2019 to qualify and/or enter for our Academic Scholarships. WHAT IS A SCHOLARSHIP? A Scholarship is a grant (reduction in fees) awarded by Manor House School to an individual pupil that displays a very high standard in academic ability, sport or the creative and expressive arts, as well as a positive attitude to developing further. Scholarships are usually awarded for the full five years of the Senior Department from Year 7 to Year 11. The value of a Scholarship is fixed in percentage terms for the duration of a girl s education at Manor House School but is subject to on-going performance. WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR A SCHOLARSHIP? Scholarships are open to all external candidates applying for a place in the Senior School in Year 7 and current pupils of Manor House School. The Scholarship assessments are both of a qualifying and of a competitive nature. Deadline for Art, Drama, Music and Sports applications is Wednesday 14 November 2018.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE We offer Academic, Sports and Creative and Expressive Art (Art, Music and Drama) Scholarships. Academic Scholarships Every registered applicant who has applied for a place in Year 7 in September 2019 will be automatically entered for an Academic Scholarship when sitting the Entrance Examinations. There are four academic scholarships offered: Two major open scholarships at 50% of the annual basic tuition fee one awarded to an external applicant from either a state or independent school and one awarded to an internal applicant. Two minor open scholarships at 40% of the annual basice tuition fee one awarded to an external applicant from either a state or independent school and one awarded to an internal applicant. Sports and Creative and Expressive Arts Scholarships (Art, Music, Drama) Sports Scholarships and Creative Arts Scholarships of up to 30% of the annual tuition fee are open to any candidate from state or independent schools including Manor House School applicants. The School reserves the right to make varied offers within the parameters set above should there be more than one applicant deserving of recognition. Bursaries Bursaries may be applied for in addition to any scholarship awarded with all applications being subject to full disclosure and means testing. The deadline for both scholarships and bursaries applicable from September 2019 is Wednesday 14 November 2018. Assessment Candidates applying for a Sports and/or a Creative and Expressive Art Scholarship are required to take part in an interview and practical assessment at one of our Scholarship Days. Scholarship entry is only open on our designated assessment days. When will I find out if my child has been successful? Applicants are notified of their success in applying for a scholarship after sitting the Entrance Examinations on Friday 11 January and during week commencing 21 January 2019. All scholarship candidates must sit the Entrance Examinations to qualify. Please complete the enclosed application form/s or email: admissions@manorhouseschool.org if you require further information. APPLICATION PROCESS Year 6 Experience Day Wednesday 7 November 2018 Deadline for Scholarship Applications Wednesday 14 November 2018 Scholarship Assessment Day(s) Thursday 29 and/or Friday 30 November 2018 Entrance Examinations Day Friday 11 January 2019 Scholarships and School Places Announced Monday 21 January 2019

Our Scholars are expected to maintain high standards in attainment and effort, be a role model for other pupils and display a positive attitude towards development. It would be a general expectation that our Scholars complete their GCSE education at Manor House and take their awarded subject as a GCSE option. ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS Academic Scholarships are awarded to the top performing internal and external candidates in our Entrance Examinations. Pupils who are awarded an Academic Scholarship are expected to show a strong commitment to their studies in all subjects. They should be proactive in classroom discussion, take leadership roles where appropriate and endeavour to set a good example to others. Homework must be completed and submitted on time. What We Offer: Our academic scholars join our Gifted & Talented Programme to complement and enrich their learning experiences. Scholars may benefit from attending events such as study skills sessions, visits to local businesses or university experience days. They join an in-house programme with organised mentoring sessions and various G&T workshops with the content tailored as closely as possible to the goals of the individual scholars.

SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS Manor House School offers sports scholarships to candidates who demonstrate leadership and excellence in their specified field or as an all-round sports performer. Candidates will also possess the potential to further develop in their area. It is expected that any candidate awarded a scholarship will maintain a level of excellence and commitment to their chosen field, representing the school in their sport and if applicable, in other main school sports such as Netball and Hockey. Main school sports: Athletics, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Swimming. However, other sports will be considered. In summary, it is our expectation that Sports Scholars will: Show passion, pride and sportsmanship in all that they do. Have a genuine desire to contribute to the sporting life of the school, including performing regularly in school fixtures and attending regular training sessions. Work to achieve the highest possible standards in their own performance. Be prepared to be a leader and assist with coaching and officiating at Key Stage 2 and 3 sporting events. Set a visible example, as a Sports Scholar, to other athletes and the wider school and display positive behaviour in all aspects of MHS life. What We offer: Regular events including workshops, trips and visits. A sports specific personal mentor. Guidance with goal setting and reviewing. Strength and conditioning coaching. Termly reports on the academic, physical and mental progress being made. A Sports Scholar s Handbook. An enhanced sense of transferable leadership qualities and the opportunity to put leadership skills into practice. Name displayed on the Scholarships Honours Board. Study GCSE PE as one of their chosen subjects at Key Stage 4.

CREATIVE AND EXPRESSIVE ARTS ART SCHOLARSHIPS Pupils who are awarded Art Scholarships are expected to show a promising level of flair, skill and enthusiasm for their subject and have the ability to produce work of a mature standard, especially in relation to their age group. What We Offer: Successful applicants will be asked to produce occasional special pieces of artwork and competition entries on behalf of the School, as required. Scholars are encouraged to enter competitions and to create special displays. Younger Scholars are admitted compulsory entry to Art Club. The Head of Art meets with scholars termly to review sketchbooks and discuss progress and personal goals. Scholars attend gallery days wherever possible for exceptional art students.

DRAMA SCHOLARSHIPS Pupils who are awarded Drama Scholarships are expected to show a high level of ability and potential and a strong commitment to the subject. Drama Scholars are encouraged to study for LAMDA examinations. What We Offer: Scholars audition for main school productions. Auditions for the National Youth Theatre and National Youth Musical Theatre are promoted to scholars. The Head of Drama mentors scholars through a termly meeting to review progress and discuss personal goals. Younger scholars attend Drama club and older scholars are expected to take a lead in assisting with this. Drama Scholars perform solo pieces at Drama Evenings. Pupils are given assistance with preparing audition pieces for events outside of school.

MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS Pupils who are awarded Music Scholarships make a major contribution to the school s Music department and participate regularly in a variety of instrumental ensembles, musical events and choirs. What We Offer: Successful candidates receive free music tuition on one orchestral instrument. Scholars meet with the Head of Choir and Orchestra to discuss new initiatives on a regular basis. Pupils are selected to play in chamber ensembles. Scholars regularly play in whole school assemblies, at Open Mornings and in church. Students perform in the Summer Concert and all other main performances. The Director of Music meets with scholars termly to review progress and discuss personal goals.
