Get to know your neighbor Resident of the month Betty Jane Wagner Betty Jane Wagner is the Featured Resident of the Month for October. Born September 23, 1920 in West Des Moines, Iowa, Betty had one brother, Jack. She attended primary school in Iowa and moved to Crown Point, Indiana and graduated High School there. After High school, Betty worked at a Variety store that her mother owned. Betty s father passed away at 39, and it was Betty s desire to be close to her mom. Eventually the store was sold and soon after Betty met her husband Bill. When asked how they met, Betty said I saw him in the drug store and said how wonderful his hair was and that she needed to meet him. They were married shortly after in Griffith, Indiana at the Methodist Church. The two of them moved into Bill s home in Highland, Indiana. Bill owned his own service station in Crown Point, Indiana. Together they had two sons, Bill and Lee. Betty became involved in the St Anthony s Hospital Women s Auxiliary. She eventually became the chairwomen for the craft committee and was involved in planning and executing craft shows and church bazaars. Betty has a passion for silk flower arranging and has done countless arrangements for sale and as gifts. Betty Jane Wagner Featured Resident of the Month Bill and Betty traveled a lot and have visited Hawaii twice and other islands and have been on many golf vacations. Both of them loved to golf and were members of the Youche Country Club. Betty enjoys participating in the planned activities here at SAAL, feeding the wild birds and waiting for the Sandhill Cranes to come visit at her window.
