3 Officer Fatalities in 2013 In the line of duty, 100 officers were killed, 59 in automobile crashes or shootings. 29

Body Armor Saves Lives Between 2003 and 2012, 36% of the officers who were feloniously killed in the line of duty were not wearing body armor. Since 1987, more than 3,000 law enforcement officers have survived lifethreatening injuries, because they were protected by body armor. 30
