Purpose of the role : To provides clinical support to the Waitemata physiotherapist (PT) team To follow up on clinical practice issues identified by physiotherapists and other healthcare individual professionals. To work alongside physiotherapists as a coach to: o Provide a patient-centred, evidenced-based approach to the assessment, management and treatment of a range of physical impairments within an interdisciplinary team framework. o Support, education and identify areas for development. o Contribute to the quality and safety of patient care provided by physiotherapists in the relevant setting. o Offer support on professional issues o Facilitate and enable staff to reach their potential and have a professional role model. The clinical service is provided across in-patient wards. Cover is provided across both Waitakere and North Shore hospitals and on statutory holiday weekend roster as required Services are delivered in accordance with Waitemata DHB Strategic Plans Professions April 2018 Page 2

KEY TASKS Coaching and mentoring Clinical Practice EXPECTED OUTCOMES Provide clinical and professional support to all members of the physiotherapy team. Provides clinical supervision and mentoring for new graduates and students when required Role models high standard of clinical professional practice when working alongside staff or students, Provides coaching to outpatient and CRS rotational physiotherapist on a case by case basis as required. Promotes an environment which optimises client/patient safety, independence, quality of life and health. Includes attention to health and safety, infection control and risk management. Assist staff, particularly new graduates, new employees or recent rotators, to be competent and confident in their role, to do so via observation, formal audit, supportive verbal and written feedback and facilitate conversations in a constructive way. Assist those in clinical education/supervision roles to manage students/workload. Role model advanced skill in areas of expertise as well as professional practice in all aspects of the role. Practices at an advanced level within Physiotherapy Role models advanced skills in areas of expertise Is committed to ongoing education to maintain advanced level of practice Role models patient centered assessment enabling patients and their significant others to be in control of their own care and rehabilitation programme Intervention/therapy is planned and implemented according to best practice principles in collaboration with the patient, family/whanau and interdisciplinary team as appropriate Utilises reflective practice for self-development Consistently demonstrates critical thinking, prioritisation and co-ordinated patient care Role models patient advocacy and empowerment Role models communication with families Change agent Equitable participation in weekend service provision where Professions April 2018 Page 3

Leadership role in weekend credentialing programme. Involvement in relevant inter-disciplinary or profession specific study days. Active participation in professional supervision process both as supervisor and supervisee. Facilitate professional development/training opportunities for individuals. Quality Assurance Professional Standards of Practice are met in accordance with New Zealand Physiotherapy Board Professional Supervision takes place on a regular basis with professional supervisor (as per SMHOP, A&ED & SAS Policy). Annual review follows performance development guidelines with objectives which are reviewed on a regular basis. Responsibility is taken for own learning by recognising training and skill needs and undertaking professional development activities on an ongoing basis. Professional Development Portfolio is developed and maintained, including a training record. Participates in peer review. Completes Waitemata DHB mandatory training. Liasion/Communication Effective communication is established and maintained with relevant colleagues within service areas Through networking, establish ongoing professional relationships with key agencies / organisations for mutual benefit Strategic promotion of relevant profession to services to relevant stakeholders Contributes to effective senior team functioning. Written documentation is in accordance with physiotherapy Standards of Practice and Waitemata DHB policy requirements.
