On behalf of the all of the staff I want to congratulate this group and wish them well as they go off on their separate ways. Each year Graduation brings a variety of emotions as, like a parent; I am proud of the accomplishments of a group, am anxious about their futures, and on occasion am ready for the break that will come. You are all invited to celebrate with the Class of 2014 as they walk across the stage in the Activities Center at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 18th. The Ministerial Association is sponsoring Baccalaureate once again this year and has asked that we share information with the BVHS community. The event Wednesday, May 14th at 7:00 pm in the PAC and is open to anyone that has a connection to the senior class. Each spring we take some time to honor the accomplishments of our students both in and out of the classroom. The Academic Awards Assembly will be held on Wednesday, May 14th from 9:45 11:15 in the Activities Center. We will reserve seats for parents in the chairs on the gym floor. We will call students up on stage to receive academic letters and honor cords. We have had a tremendous May 2014 Dr. Gregg Talcott, Principal Gregg.Talcott@k12.sd.us year academically and it is always a highlight to recognize students for academic achievement in a very public manner. Other awards (athletic, fine arts, FFA, ) that were earned and honored earlier in the year will be mentioned and placed in the slideshow but the students will not be called up on stage. We will take group pictures of each of the academic award categories and will post them on our website. On April 12th the Junior Class hosted prom with the assistance of their advisors. There were approximately 300 BVHS students and 50+ guests that attended the festivities. Thanks to Carolyn Ebright for coordinating the event this year and to Patrick Donelan for construction assistance and Naome Poppe for all he help with the food. I want to thank the dozen teachers that gave up their morning and evening to set up for and chaperone this event. The behavior of our students and their guests was tremendous as it has been at all of the dances this year. The attendance at prom is comparable to the days before the grinding ban. As a result of snow days the final day of school is Friday, May 23rd. Semester tests will be given as follows:

Page 2 www.brandonvalley.k12.sd.us Physical Examinations The Brandon Valley School District requires yearly physicals for any student, grades 7-12, participating in Brandon Valley ATHLETICS (including club sports sanctioned by Brandon Valley) and HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND. In order to participate in athletics and/or High School Marching Band, during the 2014-2015 school year, a student must have a physical dated AFTER April 1, 2014. Current physicals are not valid for next year. No matter when that physical was done, unless after April 1, 2014, it is not good for next school year. (example: if a student had a physical this spring for track, that physical is not good for the fall of 2014) Physicals done after April 1, 2014 will be good for the entire 2014-2015 school year. NEW THIS YEAR The athletic physical and ALL associated paperwork for participation in sports grades 7-12 and High School Marching Band are included in a bifold 11 x 17 front and back document. This allows you, and us, to keep all paperwork for a student on one Randy Marso, Activities Director form. Because of this, the form MUST be picked up from the High School office, the Middle School office, or either one of the Brandon Medical Clinics. We will NOT have the form online as we have in the past due to the new format. We hope that all will see the benefit in this new form and will excuse the minor inconvenience of not being able to print it at home. Pigskin Classic Randy Marso, Activities Director I would like to invite you to mark Saturday, September 6, 2014 on your calendar. This is the date for the 14th Annual Brandon Valley Pigskin Classic, sponsored by the Brandon Valley Athletic Booster Club. The day will start with a road race/walk, in the morning, and finish with the football game, as our Lynx host Huron High School. In between, there will be fun for all ages. Three-On-Three basketball, a tractor pedal pull, punt-pass-kick competition, soccer challenge, blow up games, and other activities will fill the need for fun for all ages. Summer Strength Training and Hours The Brandon Valley High School Weight Room will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday thru Thursday starting May 27 th. Summer Impact Champions Training will be from June 9- August 7 during the hours of 7:30-9:00 a.m. and 10:00-11:30 a.m. The Impact Champions Training athletes will have priority on all equipment during these times. All other athletes may use the facilities during Impact Training sessions, but must keep in mind that the Impact Champions Training includes many participants. Questions on Strength Train- Adam Bobzien, Head Strength Coach Adam.Bobzien@k12.sd.us ing and Weight Room hours should be directed to adam.bobzien@k12.sd.us The Summer Impact Champions Training information and form can be found at mm217.k12.sd.us or email matt.mueller@k12.sd.us or adam.bobzien@k12.sd.us Sports Camps Randy Marso, Activities Director I would like to make everyone aware of the opportunities provided through individual and team sport camps that are offered by Brandon Valley coaches during the summer months. The coaches in the sports of boys basketball, girls basketball, football, volleyball and wrestling all offer summer camp opportunities. These coaches also provide many opportunities for open gyms and weight room hours throughout the summer. Details on camps, and other activities, can be obtained from the individual head coaches of these sports. Please contact the individual in charge of each program with questions, not the school secretaries.
