No one is permitted to enter a class without registering first. Parents may now register ONLINE for children s classes. *Registrants may only attend the classes for which they are registered. The phone number is (516) 792-4863. FEES Fees are listed with each course description. PAYMENTS Payment in the form of check, money order or Visa/ MasterCard will be accepted (No Cash). For Recreation and Swim classes, make checks/money orders payable to Hewlett-Woodmere Community Services. For Adult Education classes, make checks/money orders payable to Hewlett-Woodmere Adult Education. CANCELLATIONS/CHANGES Courses below minimum registration may be cancelled or have the total number of hours adjusted to meet self-sustaining guidelines. If necessary, rooms may be reassigned to ensure classroom spaces remain available for district academic programs and events. CONFIRMATIONS Unless otherwise notified by the Community Education and Services Office of a class change or cancellation, your child should report to the first class session. We recommend you contact us 72 hours before the class to verify your registration. You will be contacted only if class is cancelled or postponed. SENIOR DISCOUNT 10% off for HWSD #14 senior residents who are 60 years of age or older. PARKING Park in appropriate areas marked for visitor parking or you may receive a ticket. Numbered parking spots are available after 4:00 p.m. Do not use handicapped parking without a permit. Do not park in fire lanes, unauthorized parking lots or in the back of Woodmere Education Center. Parking is limited. SAFETY AND SECURITY The safety and security of all students, staff, faculty, and visitors is a high priority of the Board of Education and administration. We ask for your full cooperation in complying with all rules and regulations while on school grounds and in our buildings. In the event of an emergency, please follow the directions provided by the responding school personnel.

REGISTRATION BEGINS MONDAY, JUNE 12 th YOU MAY NOW REGISTER ONLINE FOR ALL CLASSES REFUND REQUESTS Refunds will only be granted for the following reasons: Refunds Prior to the Start of Class: Refunds will only be granted if a written request is received in the Office of Community Education and Services no later than five days prior to the beginning of classes. A $10 cancellation fee will be deducted from the original fee paid. Cancellation requests received after the five days prior to the start of classes will receive no refund. Refunds Due to Insufficient Registration or Instructor Cancellation: There must be sufficient registration to cover the cost of providing each class. If the District cancels a class, or the instructor cancels the class, a full refund will be credited to your account. There will be no cancellation fee. Refunds Due to a Medical Emergency: Prorated refunds may be granted if a written request, accompanied by a doctor s note, is submitted. The doctor s note must state that the person is not able to participate in the specific activity for which he/she is registered. There will be no cancellation fee. HEWLETT HIGH SCHOOL POOL: Swim Lessons and Public Swim Sessions are ONLY open to HWSD #14 residents. Proof of residency is required and must be presented upon sign-in at the pool. During public swim sessions, one lap lane is set up for lap swimmers. During the Family Swim sessions, all children under the age of 7 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. All people who go through the pool lobby doors and enter the pool deck area must pay the admission fees. Swim aid devices ARE NOT permitted to be used in the pool except during structured lessons. All rules are posted at the pool. Food and beverages are NOT allowed in the pool complex. drive safely! drive safely ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS Open Gym Basketball: Looking for something to do? Drop in at Hewlett High School for a game of basketball with your friends. (District 14 Residents Only) Football and Weight Training A comprehensive program designed to increase an athlete s strength, speed, and conditioning while reducing the likelihood of injury. Twenty minutes a session will be used to develop specific football skills. (District 14 Residents Only) Red Cross Swim Lessons Certified staff will instruct your child using a structured, 6-step progressive curriculum developed by the American Red Cross. (District 14 Residents Only) Family Swim The pool at Hewlett High School is open from June 26th till August 4th, Monday Friday evenings from 7:00 p.m. 8:30 p.m. (District 14 Residents Only) Adult Swim The pool at Hewlett High School is open from June 27th till August 4th, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 8:30 p.m. 9:00 p.m. for Adults only. (District 14 Residents Only) Pool Passes Pool passes are available for purchase at the Community Education and Services office for children and adults. These passes are for admission into the open swim sessions. (District 14 Residents Only) Exercise Yoga Style This exercise class combines yoga postures, breathing, and meditation in a well-rounded workout. Each class will begin with a brief meditation to relax your body. The core of this class will focus on the incorporation of breathing with yoga postures. Your exercise experience will conclude with savasanas (a relaxation time). This gentle yoga class will help reduce stress, leaving you feeling energized and relaxed. Bring an exercise mat and wear comfortable clothes This is an early morning swim exercise program that will help improve your overall health and muscle tone. Work out and swim at your own pace in shared lanes assigned by the lifeguard. Circular laps within lanes are required with three swimmers or more per lane. Bring bathing suit and towel. Registration is open to District 14 adult residents over the age of 18 ONLY. Water Therapy This class is for the person recovering from a broken hip, arthritis pain, or heart surgery. You do not need to know how to swim to benefit from water therapy. Non-residents may only register as of June 19, 2017. Water Aerobics/Evening Water Aerobics If you are looking for an effective way to get into shape, join us for exercise in the pool. Emphasis is on limbering, slimming, and stretching muscles, while promoting a general feeling of well-being. This class is designed for swimmers and non-swimmers. Bring bathing suit and towel. Non-residents may only register as of June 19, 2017. New York DMV Learner s Permit Online Test The NYS Department of Motor Vehicles Online Knowledge Test (OKTA) is the first-ofits-kind program designed to allow high school students to take the permit test in their own local school via the internet. Students are required to register at the Community Education and Services office and bring their birth certificate or passport. Please bring Online Course picture identification to the testing site for verification purposes on the day of the exam. High school students 15 and older are eligible.

HEWLETT-WOODMERE ART & MUSIC DEPARTMENT 2017 SUMMER EVENING PROGRAMS The Hewlett-Woodmere Music Department has a proud history of offering a Summer Evening Music Program. We are now even prouder to add a Summer Evening Art Program. The Music Program is designed for children who have already been introduced to an instrument or voice in our current school day curriculums. It is not an introductory music instruction program for students who have not had formal music lessons. Music lessons are given in small groups and are 30 minutes each, meeting 2 times per week for four weeks. These small group lessons with be held at Hewlett High School and scheduled within the timeframes listed on the schedule below. Lesson groups will be decided based on registered students in the program. Students will be afforded more time to work on projects, which normally would not be possible during school days, due to time restrictions. Art lessons are 90 minutes each, meeting two times per week for four weeks. These group lessons will be held at Hewlett High School at the times and dates listed below. Art 6:00 7:30 p.m. Mondays & Tuesdays July 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31, Aug. 1 Students may register for more than one program. Pre-registration is required. The fee for each program is $160.00, which includes instruction and art supplies for the art program and instruction and instrument rental for student in the band, orchestra and vocal programs. There is a $15.00 discount for students in the band or orchestra program who provide their own instrument. There is a $15.00 discount per activity for families registering more than one child.
