Wabash Ave. All new students, parents, and guests will receive personalized materials for New Student Orientation. Students will also be able to pick up their required ARTICard ID and Ventra UPass. Provided it meets the SAIC Laptop Requirement, you will have the opportunity to have your laptop configured for WiFi access on campus, along with instructions on how to obtain software such as Adobe Creative Cloud suite and Microsoft Office. Columbus Much of our orientation activity will be focused around your orientation group. You ll meet your Orientation Leader and who will bring the group together to create one piece of a larger art installation for the night. The museum will be closed to the general public so that you can take in the galleries as well as the overall art of the building itself. Orientation Leaders will lead tours in the galleries, so bring your parents along! This time is also for anyone who was unable to check in during the designated time on Saturday. State Street The Gene Siskel Film Center is closing its doors to the public to make way for a private screening just for you! For almost 40 years, the Gene Siskel Film Center has presented world-class independent, international, and classic cinema. This amazing SAIC resource presents approximately 1,500 screenings and 100 guest artist appearances each year to over 65,000 film enthusiasts at its unique, sophisticated, modern facilities which have been operating since June 2001 at 164 N. State Street. Please arrive early to get your seat space is limited! The presentation provides resources available to students who have experienced sexual misconduct and discusses prevention strategies through bystander intervention. 11:20 a.m. 11:40 a.m. Staying Safe: Navigating Chicago and Online Spaces Enter at Columbus Drive Entrance John Pack, Executive Director of Campus Security Making the transition to an urban college environment can be challenging for many new students. Learn tips on staying safe while you are online and out and about in Chicago. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 4:30 p.m. 5:30 p.m. Sketch the City Lovely: An Artists Guide to Chicago MacLean Ballroom, 112 S. Michigan Kevin Coval, SAIC Faculty Member and Spoken Word Poet and Author See the city as you've never seen it before: through the eyes of Chicago artists. This poetic and artistic event will introduce you to Chicago through poetry, music, performance, and spoken word. Join us for this collaborative, variety show performance that will explore the city through the beautiful lens of the artistic eye. This event has been coordinated by SAIC faculty member and well-known Chicago artist, Kevin Coval. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 4:00 6:00 p.m. Student Group Fair and Ice Cream Social MacLean Ballroom, 112 S. Michigan Take this opportunity to learn more about the student groups and organizations at SAIC! Wabash Need to figure out how to make your time and money stretch? Concerned on how to address your student loans now and in the future? Learn everything from managing credit cards to budgeting for art supplies and groceries. This session will discuss tips and strategies to budget your time and money wisely in order to be successful as an artist at SAIC and beyond. 5

Food and drinks will be provided (vegan and vegetarian options also available). WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 4:15 5:450 p.m. IMPACT Self-Defense Workshop Sharp 327, 37 S. Wabash Join IMPACT Chicago for a workshop that will provide you with personal safety tools, such as awareness, safe distance, and verbal and physical self-defense skills. The workshop will also cover bystander intervention and ways to assist others if they are experience unsafe situations. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Homan Square Open House: Oaks of North Lawndale: Enduring Promises 906 S. Homan Ave., Parking Lot Nichols Tower The School of the Art Institute of Chicago together with members of the North Lawndale community will plant trees and place stones for the reforestation of North Lawndale. The day will begin with artist Pedro Reyes overseeing the production of his work Palas por Pistolas (Shovels from Pistols), repurposing weapon waste into shovel heads. These shovels will then be used to dig the holes to plant the trees. The event is sponsored by the Office of Engagement. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3 4:00 p.m. 6:00pm Sex Fest MacLean Ballroom, 112 S. Drawing together world-renowned institutions as well as artists in assorted fields, this dramatic display activates Halloween as the artist s holiday.
