President: Trevor Donegan District 9810 DG Tony Monley Vol 59 Issue 35 24-03-15 Editor: PE Lyndon Smith www.boxhillrotary.com.au Club No. 8355 Hand Brake Turn - The last week saw our club host the Whitehorse Cluster dinner where the 6 clubs donated $5,400 to Hand Brake Turn. A thank you goes to all the clubs who sent representatives to the dinner and to District Assistant Governor Paul Mee for his attendance and support. Pooling smaller sums of money from each club has certainly meant that a project of a much larger scale can now be completed. District Grants Seminar - During the week, our Foundation Chair, Joe, President Elect Lyndon and myself attended the District s education seminar on Global and District Grants. The seminar canvassed all the possibilities a club can enter into to sponsor or even co-sponsor projects. District grants for projects in Australia which will attract grants upto $3,000 whilst International Project grants can attract grants up to $5,000. Both of these grants are given on a $1 for $1 basis, so that for instance our clubs $5,000 will become a $10,000 project. Global grants are also available. These projects are calculated in USD and have special rules regarding sustainability and must have a measurability criteria attached to them. The minimum amount necessary is $10,000 from the club or partnering clubs. The District will then contribute $10,000 and The Rotary Foundation will then top up these funds by another $15,000, making it a $35,000 project. A project of this size would be seen as a minimum. Our clubs challenge then is to think very carefully on how we can use the funds we raise and supplement them with funds from OUTSIDE the club to give the best possible outcome. What will that project be? Yours in Rotary, Trevor Donegan, President WHERE ARE WE? Club Members Acknowledged for their assistance in promoting next years conference at Shepparton. PE Lyndon Smith thanked all Members for assembling Shepparton 2016 Conference Show Bags which were distributed to over 400 attendees at the recent Ballarat District Conference. In particular he thanked those who transported 5 cases of assembled show bags up to Ballarat and for manning the Expo stand to distribute the Shepparton material. Thanks also go to Ross McPhail for the excellent On To Conference preparation, accommodation and dinner arrangements. Successful District 9810 Conference at Ballarat The 9810 District Conference for 2015 was held over the weekend from Friday March 13 to Sunday March 15 at Ballarat University with over 500 attendees. The Conference Theme was based on Rotary International s Six Areas of Focus and the speakers showed Rotary does not work in a vacuum or on a different plane to the rest of the world. It concentrated on merging Rotary s activities and real world outcomes, both locally and globally. This was be achieved by using six external speakers who are experts in their field, speakers who are recipients of Rotary programs, and six experienced Rotary topic champions. RIPPR RI President s Personal Representative (RIPPR) at the Conference was Bill Boyd of the RC of Pakuranga, NZ. He was President of RI in 2006/07 and also Chair of the Rotary Foundation of RI 2011/12.
