Student Resources / Projects

EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service) It is a program that organizes university and high-school students to work on engineering-related projects for local humanitarian organizations. Empowers IEEE Student Branches and IEEE Young Professional groups to work with high school students. Focus on development of devices and systems for the benefit of the target audiences of the non-profit community partners.

EPICS Project Categories EPICS and EPICS in IEEE projects fall under four defined humanitarian categories. These categories help students connect engineering skills to humanitarian issues that involve: Access & Abilities Education & Outreach Environment Human Services

Example of EPICS Projects Year Country Category 2012 Mexico Education & Outreach 2013 Malaysia Access & Abilities 2013 India Access & Abilities 2014 China Human Services Project Title My Robot Friend: Teaching Kids Robotics Developing A Real Time Activity Recognition For Children With Communication and Social Disabilities Educational Device For The Mentally Disadvantaged and Learning Disabled Education and Outreach of Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy (More Example: http://www.ieee.org/education_careers/education/preuni versity/epics_student_branch_projects.html )

How to apply for EPICS-in-IEEE Funding Student branches can apply by sending completed application form along with a detailed budget to epics-high@ieee.org. Applications may be submitted at any time throughout the year. EPICS in IEEE project grants range around $1,000 to $10,000 U.S. dollars. For more information, please visit www.ieee.org/epics_high.html

IEEEXtreme Competition IEEEXtreme is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems. Grand Prize: All expense-paid trip to an IEEE conference of choice, anywhere around the world! http://www.ieee.org/membership_services/membership/students/compet itions/xtreme/index.html

IEEE Student Branch Management

Student Branch Development Best Practice To report your Student Branch activities and newly elected officers yearly in November. This is essential for direct communication between your Region, Section and IEEE Headquarters. o Report your Officers: https://officers.vtools.ieee.org/ o Report your yearly activities https://sbr.vtools.ieee.org/

Student Branch Development Best Practice Start off your semester by recruiting new students! Your Student Branch Chair / Counselor can request for Membership Development kit materials at www.ieee.org/md. Build your own IEEE hosted website http://sites.ieee.org/ Connect with the Student Facebook Page www.facebook.com/ieeestudents Student Webinars: http://www.ieee.org/membership_services/membership/stu dents/student_webinars.html
