Purpose of the role : To provide high quality, efficient and effective dietetic service for patients and families/care givers To provide timely nutrition intervention for inpatients and outpatients where appropriate to improve their health status, rehabilitation and recovery at North Shore Hospital. To deliver services in accordance with WDHB strategic plans Provide high quality nutritional care for inpatients. Provide nutrition education to other health professionals Work effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment Provide support, nutritional advice and education to the Food and Beverage Services Appropriate clinical assessments are conducted in accordance to department prioritization criteria Patients with special nutritional requirements are assessed and appropriate treatment provided. Patients receive appropriate nutrition advice and education considering their social and cultural needs. Patients receive evidence-based and timely written and oral information that meets their nutrition education needs. Nutrition care is patient led and focus is on meeting patient goals. Projects to improve nutritional care undertaken as required. Nutrition standards for clinical practice and safety are maintained in accordance with professional and organisational standards. Special authority applications are completed in a timely manner and meet criteria as per PHARMAC Provides training for dietetic students including clinical supervision, observation, education sessions and feedback Timely and evidenced based training is provided that meets the education needs of WDHB staff Contributes to the functioning and development of the interdisciplinary team by attending ward rounds, team meetings and discussing patient care as appropriate. Networks with other Dietitians and Allied Health staff within WDHB and externally Liaise with and work with food and beverage staff to ensure patients receive high quality meals and beverages that meet their requirements Provide education and training to staff as required Communicate effectively Ongoing communication with colleagues and other Waitemata District Health Board -JOB DESCRIPTION - Page 2

Appropriate professional development sessions, courses and conferences are attended as agreed to with manager. Professional standards are maintained, including participation in the NZ Dietitians Board Continuing Competency Programme. Completes Enteral Feeding e-learning Competency Contributes to a Quality Service Assists with the orientation of staff and training and education of students as required Participates in audits/projects/research to develop self and/or service Contribution is made to development and review of best practice guidelines and patient resources Initiates and participates in the implementation of service development projects Maintains accurate statistical information as per department requirements Participates in Annual Performance Review. Sets and meets objectives which are reviewed on a regular basis Participates in Professional Supervision (as per Professional Supervision for Allied Health in WDHB policy) Completes annual Waitemata DHB Dietitians Practice Review Requirements Statutory & Treaty of Waitangi obligations Ensures the professional and political integrity of WDHB by carrying out all functions in compliance of the Treaty of Waitangi and by demonstrating a serious commitment to keeping the treaty alive.
