CLASS OF 2022 ORIENTATION SCHEDULE General assistance is available in the lobby of the Memorial Student Union Building on Friday from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. During the day on Monday and Tuesday, students can visit the Office of Student Academic Life in the Memorial Student Union Building, room 210, for any questions or concerns. Lost and found items may be turned in or recovered at DePauw Public Safety, located in the lower level of 101 E. Seminary St. WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARRIVE» First station: Residence hall check-in Go directly to your residence hall and park your vehicle. While volunteers help unload your car, proceed to Humbert Hall in the South Quad to check in if you are in Bishop Roberts Hall, Hogate Hall, Humbert Hall or Longden Hall, or to Lucy Rowland Hall in Ubben Quad if you are living in Lucy Rowland Hall. Get your room key and student ID. Complete housing check-in. Pick up a schedule for the day and check your advising meeting location.» Second station: Your room Start unpacking and meet your roommate(s) and your first-year resident assistant.» Third station: Information tables Memorial Student Union Building, lobby and campus living room (Opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 1:30 p.m.) Visit the information tables and talk with representatives of a variety of campus offices. Learn about services offered by DePauw Health and PNC Bank. Pick up your parking permit or register your vehicle (bring vehicle registration and student ID if you have not registered online). After information tables close, permits are available at the Office of Public Safety, located in the lower level of 101 E. Seminary St. UNIVERSITY OFFICES University offices are regularly open from Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. DePauw s Office of Public Safety, located in the lower level of 101 E. Seminary St. is staffed 24 hours a day. The ID OneCard Office will be open from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, and Sunday, Aug. 19. The cost of the catered dinner on Sunday, Aug. 19 will be deducted from your meal plan. Hoover Dining Hall will be open at the following times during orientation (Friday, Aug. 17 Tuesday, Aug. 21).... 7-10 a.m. Lunch...11 a.m.-2 p.m. * Dinner... 5-8 p.m. * Note that lunch on Friday, Aug. 17, will be from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

FRIDAY, AUG. 17 8-11:30 a.m. Move in Humbert Hall or Lucy Rowland Hall (check-in locations) Check in and move into your residence hall. Go directly to your residence hall and park your vehicle. Students who arrive today may do so if time allows. Placement exams will be administered on Saturday, Aug. 18 for students not able to take the Spanish exam at this time and for all other languages. (See Saturday, Aug. 18, for more information on placement exams.) 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Community lunch Join the DePauw community for lunch. Use the tickets you received at check-in to enjoy a free lunch. Students who arrived prior to today: See your program provider for tickets. If you need additional tickets, please visit the information tables from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the lobby of the Memorial Student Union Building. 1:45 p.m. Convocation seating begins Families should proceed to the Green Center for the Performing Arts,, for convocation seating. Overflow seating for families will be in Moore Theatre. 2 p.m. Convocation procession gathering Ubben Quadrangle Students should report to Ubben Quadrangle, located across the street from the Memorial Student Union Building, to line up for the convocation procession. In case of rain, meet in the lower level, west hallway of the Green Center for the Performing Arts. 2:30 p.m. Class of 2022 Welcome Convocation The opening convocation for students and families will feature a procession followed by welcoming remarks and a formal address by DePauw University President Mark McCoy. After the end of convocation, parents should remain seated in the auditorium. Students will process out of following the faculty and will proceed to the meeting with faculty advisors. 3:30-4:15 p.m. Student meeting with faculty advisors Classrooms (check your portal in e-services) Meet your faculty advisor, student mentor and first-year seminar classmates. Your faculty advisor and student mentor will share information about orientation. 3:30-4:15 p.m. Parent Orientation Parents are invited to join DePauw staff to learn more about life at DePauw. 4:15-5:45 p.m. Family goodbyes You may use this time to say goodbye to your family. Families should plan to depart campus by 5:45 p.m. so students can promptly begin required student orientation activities. 6-8:30 p.m. Mentor group dinner and team-building activities Your mentor and students in your mentor group will be the first students you come to rely on in your time at DePauw. After having dinner together, your mentor will lead you through a series of team-building activities that will help you get to know one another. Make sure to have your student ID as you will need to use a meal swipe for dinner. You also will need your student ID to enter your residence hall. 9 p.m. Building community Your residence hall floor Meet your first-year resident assistant(s) and fellow community members and learn about expectations we have for how we live in our communities. 10:30 p.m. Residence hall socials Spend time getting to know other students from your residence hall. SATURDAY, AUG. 18 7-9 a.m. 8:30-10 a.m. School of Music advising session (for students in the School of Music only) room 1115 School of Music students will receive information about their fall course schedule, degree programs in the School of Music, ensemble auditions, concert attendance, lockers for music instruments, opportunities for students, staff accompanists and extended studies opportunities. At 9:30 a.m., information specific to music education majors will be shared. Following this session, School of Music students will attend the 10 a.m. DePauw Gold Commitment session in the Green Center for the Performing Arts, Moore Theatre. 9-11 a.m. The Value of the Liberal Arts at DePauw and The DePauw Gold Commitment During this timeblock, you will attend these two sessions. Your mentor will tell you your assigned times and locations. The Value of the Liberal Arts at DePauw Anne Harris, vice president for academic affairs and professor of art history, will share thoughts with you about how to combine your coursework with your passion and ambition. She will explain the reasoning behind the general education requirements you will take in your first two years at DePauw, as well as what it means to have a major in a liberal arts college. The DePauw Gold Commitment Moore Theatre Cindy Babington, vice president for strategic initiatives, will talk about the DePauw Gold Commitment, including expectations we have for you and what you can expect from DePauw. 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Meeting with commitment advisor and lunch During this timeblock, you will meet your commitment advisor to learn more about the DePauw Gold Commitment and have lunch. Your mentor will tell you your assigned times and locations. 1-2:30 p.m. Theory Placement Exam (for School of Music Students) room 1021 All incoming music students will take a test of theory and dictation skills to determine placement in Theory I and Musicianship I or

Theory II and Musicianship II. Students were provided a sample test at the beginning of the summer and a list of suggested preparation materials. Attend a religious service in Greencastle. Take a walk at the Nature Park. Visit the Welch Fitness Center. Socialize and continue to get to know your classmates. This morning DePauw religious groups will host students for gatherings to connect first-year students to on-campus opportunities and local churches will host students for worship opportunities. These opportunities are listed on the Center for Spiritual Life website at www.depauw.edu/ studentacademiclife/hartman/spiritual-life. 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Lunch 12:45 p.m. Class of 2022 Photo Meet on the west steps of the Green Center for the Performing Arts (facing the Lilly Center) for a class photo. 1-3:30 p.m. Intervene DePauw is creating a culture of care in which students are expected to do something to better our community. If one of your peers tells a hurtful joke, expresses feelings of self-harm or is in a dangerous or potentially violent situation, will you know what to do? Bystander intervention is an important component in creating a caring, healthy and safe community. You and your mentor group will explore what it means to intervene effectively. Your mentor will tell you where your group will meet.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC AUDITIONS AND PLACEMENT MONDAY, AUG. 20 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. School of Music ensemble auditions Ensembles are open to all students by audition. Students in the School of Music must participate on their primary instrument (voice, horn, flute, etc.) in at least one major ensemble (university band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, chamber singers, chorus). For students in the College of Liberal Arts, participation in ensembles may be applied toward arts and humanities requirements. Audition requirements will be posted on the School of Music website, www.depaw.edu/music/ensembles, during the summer. Please review these prior to arriving on campus. Audition sign-up sheets (with individual appointment times) will be posted outside the following offices: University Band room 1116. University Orchestra room 1117. Jazz Ensemble room 1118. Noon - 2 p.m. Voice auditions for interested College of Liberal Arts students Students who have had no previous instruction in voice should register for MUS 905, Beginning Class Voice I. Students in the College of Liberal Arts who have studied voice privately in high school and wish to take individual lessons should be prepared to perform one song that best displays their vocal accomplishments. By appointment Piano auditions for School of Music and interested College of Liberal Arts students School of Music students: Professor Amanda Hopson will contact you via email during the summer to assess your piano background and place you in the appropriate class. College of Liberal Arts students: Beginning students should register for MUS 901 (Beginning Class Piano I) in the sections designated for CLA students. By appointment Individual sight-singing placement for School of Music Students Incoming music students who demonstrate strong dictation skills on the placement exam will be notified by email on Sunday, August 19, and invited to sign up for individual appointment to demonstrate their ability to sight-sing. This appointment, along with the results of the written placement tests, will determine placement in musicianship classes. For more information, contact Eliza Brown at elizabrown@ depauw.edu. 4:30 p.m. GOLD Alumni Speaker Series featuring Kortney Cartwright 14 Kortney Cartwright 14 majored in history and his academic accolades include membership in Phi Alpha Theta History Honorary, The William Wallace Carson Scholar Award and dean s list. He also was a member of the football team and served as a RA and presidential ambassador. Upon graduating, Kortney began his career in IT staffing/services and served as a graduate member to the DePauw Board of Trustees. He is currently employed as district branch manager for the Minneapolis office of BCforward, the largest minorityowned business solution and staffing firm in Indianapolis. 5:30 p.m. GOLD dinners Your mentor group will spend time during dinner with one of DePauw s Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD). This is an opportunity for you to get advice on how to maximize your DePauw experience and connect with a member of the DePauw alumni family. Please bring your laptop to this session. 9-10 a.m. Students whose last name begins with A-F 10:15-11:15 a.m. Students whose last name begins with G-N 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Students whose last name begins with O-Z (If your individual advising appointment or School of Music audition occurs during your scheduled survey time, please attend another science assessment session.) 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Student employment introductory advising Memorial Student Union Building, Hubbard Center for Student Engagement Representatives will be available to assist students with completing tax withholding forms and the federal I-9 form. Original documents must be presented to complete and validate the I-9 form. Copies, faxes and electronic images are not acceptable. Examples include, but are not limited to, one picture ID (student ID or driver s license) and one non-picture ID (Social Security card or birth certificate). A valid passport is also acceptable. Interviews and hiring will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 21, and will continue throughout the semester.
