SIGNIFICANT ARRESTS BAKER, Clover: DUI PHILLIPS, Aaron: Domestic Violence/Resist w/o Force OTHER Alpha Squad is responsible for 13 arrests and issued 53 citations this month. Sgt. Stevens assist with the Traffic Homicide/DUI portion of the Citizens Police Academy on May 1st, and with the CSI class on May 22. Officer Bilbrey and Officer McKee assisted with the Firearms Training portion of the Citizens Police Academy on May 22. Several Citizens Police Academy participants have completed their Ride- Along with officers on Delta Squad. Charlie Squad members continue to patrol in the area of Sugar Hill and Azalea Gardens. Traffic and Speed Enforcement was conducted in areas of concern throughout the city. Sgt. Hunt assisted the Citizens Police Academy Teaching Firearms Techniques. Officer Gonzalez & Rico also assisted with the CPA during K-9 Demonstrations Night. Charlie Squad conducted Community Policing with local churches and were invited for lunch at the First Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Charlie Squad made 12 arrests this month and issued a total of 36 Citations. BRAVO SQUAD - SGT. MICHELLE SMITH EDUCATION: Officers completed monthly Police One and Police Law Institute Online Training. Officer Sanders completed Radar Class. Ofc. Anderson continues in K9 training school with new K9 (Falco). SIGNIFICANT ARRESTS: DAVIS, Arsheile: Burglary, Robbery by Sudden Snatching CRADDOCK, Booker T.: Possession of a Firearm by A Convicted Felon. Bravo Squad is responsible for the following: 20 Arrests and issued 92 Citations. Officers have focused their efforts to conducting Watch Orders and Directed Patrols throughout the city. DELTA SQUAD - SGT. CARL SMITH NEW EMPLOYEES: N/A EDUCATION: Officers completed monthly Police One and Police Law Institute Online Training. SIGNIFICANT ARRESTS: CHERRY, Cedrick: Possession of Cocaine, Trespass after Warning. TURNER, Jacquelline: Possession of Methamphetamine, Retail Theft. TENNANT, Robert: Possession of Cocaine and Paraphernalia. K-9 Demonstrations during the 2018 CPA Delta Squad is responsible for the following: 26 Arrests and 31 Citations. 2

Page 3 DETECTIVE BUREAU Sgt. Eric Sherouse EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS: Detectives completed monthly Police Law Institute online training. SIGNIFICANT ARRESTS/INVESTIGATIONS: BERRY, Carl: Sexual Battery ROWLAND, James: Arrest Warrant Issued for Burglary, Grand Theft ORNELAS, Gabriel: Burglary of a Conveyance, and Outstanding Warrant out of Hardee County. Sgt. Sherouse presented to the Citizens Police Academy on May 15th. Det. Cody Vaughn coordinated a department-wide effort to pay respects to fallen Highlands County Deputy as his body was escorted through town. Det. Tommy Stokes retired at the end of this month. He will be joining the Police Reserve Unit as a volunteer. Detective Tommy Stokes retired this month after nearly 20 years of service to the City of Bartow. Detectives are currently working 75 active felony investigations. For the last week of school, and in light of recent shooting events, Detectives were assigned to all of the elementary schools to ensure a armed patrol presence in every public school. Sgt. Randy Tagliarini Lyn Bryan, CST Coordinator & Crime Analyst C.S.T. COMMUNITY SERVICES TEAM EDUCATION: Police Law and PoliceOne monthly training. Honor Guard members attended the monthly training with PCSO and completed over 15 hrs. of training. TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT CST Officers have been assigned to patrol more frequently the perimeters of Bartow High and Summerlin Academy Military Academy. CST Officer Tagliarini attended the Polk County Traffic Safety Team meeting. Attended the POLK VISION Meeting to discuss safety measures for the Polk County Biking and Pedestrian use. COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENTS / ACTIVITIES Attended the monthly Chief s Chat held at the Broadway Diner on May 1st at 7:30 AM. The 2018 Citizens Police Academy began the 9-week program last month. The 2018 CPA Program concluded at the end of this month with a Graduation ceremony held on May 29th at the Bartow Civic Center. May 4th, the Honor Guard Unit and several members of the Department attended the Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service in Lakeland. Friday, May 5, CST Officer Tagliarini coordinated a softball game fundraiser pitting the Bartow Police Dept. against the Bartow Fire Dept. The event, which was held at Bartow High School s Baseball Field, was very well attended. A whopping $1,700 was raised for the George Harris Youth Shelter, and many have asked that we make this an annual event. Monday, May 7th, Chief of Police Joe Hall and Deputy Chief Bryan Dorman accepted a proclamation from Mayor Leo Longworth, declaring National Police Week, the week of May 13-19. Wed. May 9th CST and School Resource Officers participated in the annual Just Say No to Drugs Parade & Rally. The 2018 Citizens Police Academy completed 9 weeks of classes and a graduation ceremony was held on May 29th at the Civic Center. Page 4 Thursday, May 3rd, the Annual Polk County Peace Officers Memorial Service was held in Lakeland at the Polk County Law Enforcement Memorial. The annual event, always held the first week in May, precedes National Police Week, May 13-19, and National Peace Officers Day, which is held each year on May 15th. These events recognize law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and to voice appreciation for those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime. Records Supervisor, Jo Hayes retired at the end of May. She retired with over 37 years of service to the city of Bartow. JO HAYES, RECORDS SUPERVISOR MAY 2018 VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY The COP Volunteers patrol in pairs, throughout the city during the daylight hours. In addition to patrolling, the volunteers look out for and report suspicious activity. They assist the Crime Prevention Practitioner with many Crime Prevention Programs, and the CST Unit in many public events and several parades throughout the year. Page 5 Sixteen (16) citizens began a nine week Citizens Police Academy Program on Tuesday, April 3, 2018; meeting each Tuesday from 6:30-9:30 PM. The group learned about many aspects of police work and heard from several speakers from the Police Department as well as some outside presenters. May 1 st -Week 5 of the program was devoted to the topic of Traffic Homicide and DUI Investigations. The 3-hour session, held at the Bartow Civic Center, included a DUI Wet Lab, and Radar/Laser demonstrations. Officer Luke Hauser, a Traffic Homicide Investigator was the presenter that evening. May 8th, Week-6 included presentations from the K-9 Unit, presenters were Officer David Bilbrey/Brody and Officer Arturo Gonzalez/Rico. A presentation by Mr. Chip Brown with Heartland Crime Stoppers followed. The evening ended with Det. Britt Davis who is with HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Traffic Task Force). Week 7, May 15th Judge Dick Prince, always a favorite, presented on the History of Stand your Ground Law, and general history of firearms and the law. Det. Eric Sherouse followed with a presentation of Felony Investigations. Week 8, included a Mock Crime Scene set up by CST Officer Tagliarini and volunteer Luann Green, a CSI Presentation with Fingerprinting Activity presented by Sgt. Bill Stevens with help from Suzi Orem.. Finally the group participated in Firearms Training on the range with Instructors Sgt. Gerad Hunt, Officer McKee and Officer Bilbrey. Week 9 was held at the Civic Center. The group heard from School Resource Officer Toni Strickland and then Officer Tagliarini presented a program on the Honor Guard Unit, Lyn Bryan, CST Coordinator spoke of Volunteer Programs, and Kathryn Jones presented Accreditation. Judge Dick Prince explains Stand Your Ground Law A presentation was made by Chief of Police Joe Hall to American Legion President Wally Edwards, expressing the department s appreciation to the Legion for providing the funding for the program. On Friday, May 4th a Softball game was held, pitting Bartow Police Department members against those of the Bartow Fire Department. The game was a fundraiser and proceeds garnered over $7000 toward the George Harris Youth Shelter. Many are hoping this will become an annual event. Unfortunately, the Fire Department was victorious by a score of 15-10, although there was talk of a couple of ringers participating on the Fire Team.
