Chief s Corner The Park Ridge Police Chaplains held their annual memorial service dedicated to the vic ms of 9 11. This year s ceremony was held at the Fire Sta on at Devon and Cumberland. Students from Roosevelt School and Mary, Seat of Wisdom both par cipated. The Roosevelt Choir sang several musical selec ons while two students from Mary, Seat of Wisdom read their essays. The Chaplains look forward to planning next year s memorial service with the dedica on of the beam at its new loca on. Several staff changes occurred this month. Parking Enforcement Officer Dolores Wilson re red a er 25 years of service to the City. She was an excep onal employee and we wish her the best in re rement. Myles Klein was sworn in on September 22 as a new police officer. Fr. Peter Gnoinski was sworn in as a new Chaplain on September 28 at St. Paul of the Cross Church. In addi on, we began a student internship program with Maine South. This is a new ini a ve we started this year. The Department was recognized for its efforts in addressing the use of drugs and alcohol by teens at its annual banquet. Deputy Chief Keller accepted a plaque on behalf of the Department. Two ini a ves started with School District 64. Our annual Bike Helmet coloring contest started. The Department con nued to work with both Lincoln and Emerson Middle Schools on a follow up program regarding making good choices. Our target date for the switch over to West Suburban con nues to be on track for November 5th. In addi on, the Board has agreed to move forward with a new CABS system. Our Social Worker Laura Campbell and the Police Chaplains are sponsoring a seminar called Mental Health and the Law for November 6, at 7 p.m. at South Park. Lutheran General Hospital is also helping to co sponsor this event. Traffic Traffic Enforcement *Selec ve Enforcements at the following loca ons: Courtland and Peterson 15 ckets, 4 warnings (enforcement closed); Home and Crescent 5 ckets; Talco and Cherry 9 ckets (enforcement closed); Cumberland and Gillick 2 ckets, 2 warnings and Talco and Hamlin, 5 ckets issued. Ran radar for a complaint of speeding autos on 1 block of Lahon, no viola ons observed. Complainant no fied. Placed speed trailer at Elmore and Cherry, results did not warrant selec ve enforcement. Called to inform concerned residents. * Placed speed sentry at 18 Devon, results did not warrant selec ve enforcement, complainant no fied of the results. Completed and communicated selec ve enforcement results at Courtland and Peterson to resident and received posi ve feedback. Enforcement now discon nued due to reduced traffic. Replaced No Le Turn sign at Dunkin Donuts loca on (Touhy and Greenwood). Le message with complainant that selec ve enforcement at Talco and Cherry will be discon nued due to speed compliance. Placed the Speed Sentry at the 1 block of Cu riss. Placed the Speed trailer on Dee Road, in response to resident complaint. Placed Speed trailer and four Children Play Here signs at Cedar and Knight based on resident complaints. *Placed Speed trailer on Touhy, east of Washington in response to resident complaints. Spoke with resident regarding complaint of Hot Rodders. Grants Finished paperwork for the Impaired Driving Grant for Labor Day. Met with John Gomoll regarding future grants. Overweight Truck Permits Approved 7 Overweight Permits. Generated $2,914. in overweight fines. Red Speed *182 total Red Speed viola ons, and 112 approved. Miscellaneous *2 ckets issued for commuters walking across railroad tracks during Railroad Safety Week. *Observed the Devon crosswalk for motorists viola ng pedestrian crosswalk, no viola ons issued, or observed. *Spoke with supervisor at the Post Office in reference to mail trucks viola ng parking laws, compliance gained. *Inves gated mul ple hit and runs, and solved a hit and run with res tu on being given to the vic m. *Spoke with residents who disapproved of a le er being placed on their cars regarding commuter parking. *A ended Senior Breakfast and Coffee with a Cop. *Met with Sco Mackall of District 64 regarding crosswalks at Greenwood and Normal. *Par cipated in Rail Safety Week. 4
