IANZ and other registration bodies. Medical and Nursing staff at Private Hospitals in the Waitemata DHB area. Tertiary Education Facilities, i.e. AUT. Engineers, Suppliers and other technical support specialists from companies servicing and maintaining laboratory equipment. Purpose of the role: Hours: To directly support the role of Team Leader. To provide biochemistry and immunology services to agreed standards. To be a part of a customer focused team providing high quality laboratory service Rostered and rotating duties covering seven days/week Participation in all shifts may be required. Routine Work: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES EXPECTED OUTCOMES Operate laboratory equipment according to documented protocols. Ensure instruments are maintained as per documented procedures. Process and analyse specimens, within turnaround times and quality standards defined in the laboratory manuals Ensure that documented quality control procedures are followed, test results are checked when technically appropriate, and results are reported correctly. Quality Assurance Ensure Quality Control is of a high standard by following documented procedures. timely review of Internal /External EQA and appropriate actions are taken by key stakeholders. Service Lead- Support to the Team Leader Act as the first point of contact on all matters of team operations. Key issues are escalated to the Team Leader where appropriate. Ensure work schedules are programmed and coordinated to ensure service level agreements are met and tests are completed without delay Provide the coaching and development support to staff in the department. Ensuring any performance reviews (PDR), performance management and conflict resolution is managed in conjunction with the Team Leader. Adequate follow up is provided to ensure completion of tasks. Maintain the scientific standards of the analyses and ensure the results reported are accurate, precise and specific for the testing requested. Maintain adequate supplies of suitable in date reagents to support testing. Ensure equipment is maintained appropriately. Monitor/facilitate budget spend and reporting Monitor the departmental operations ensuring the Team Leader is aware of any key issues. Is a champion of Lean Healthcare principles and completes Transformation projects within agreed timelines. Takes an active role in the tender process for new equipment. Supervision and Training Provide support, manage and monitor activities of the relevant staff groups. Ensure all staff hold a current APC and are supported in development to a high level of competency, when learning new skills. Staff are encouraged to attend lunchtime seminars, Conferences and Journal clubs and supported in their efforts to gain appropriate CPD points. Assist the Team Leader in developing and executing staff training programs. professional parameters. Supervise the work carried out by scientists, technicians and assistants. Ensure the work is performed to acceptable quality standards and within acceptable timeframes as defined in laboratory documentation. Bring new methods and procedures to the attention of the Team Leader and introduce agreed changes. PERSON SPECIFICATION POSITION TITLE: Service Lead Biochemistry Qualification Experience Skills/Knowledge/Behaviour Essential Registered and holding a current Annual Practicing Certificate in Biochemistry issued by the Medical Sciences Council. Demonstrated experience in providing Laboratory Scientist services in Biochemistry in a medium to large organization 5 years experience as a Scientist Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft suite products Demonstrated effective communication skills, both written and oral. High attention to detail Fundamental management skills, including: organizational, time management, task completion and leadership Demonstrated ability to utilise information technology capability and implement change where required and appropriate. Desired Current demonstrated experience at a senior level involving some staff co-ordination. Recent Immunology experience Demonstrated ability to identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and best practice. Ability to prepare detailed and meaningful management reports.
