everyone deserves a break now and then Respite care Flexible, occasional stays in a Baptcare residential aged care community

Treat us as your home away from home Every Baptcare aged care community offers short-term stays for older people in need of temporary care and accommodation, who have a current ACAT * approval for respite care. You may want to give your usual caregivers or family members some time to rest and recharge, or you may be recovering from an illness and need a little extra support before returning home. We ve got you covered Once you have been assessed as eligible for respite care, you are entitled to a certain number of days of respite per year. All of Baptcare s aged care communities offer respite care through a booking system. Think of it as a change of scene in a welcoming and homely environment. *ACAT = Assessment Team (ACAS in Victoria)

Respite care suits many situations Our respite care program is designed to be flexible and responsive whenever possible, we re here for you. This need not be a time of crisis. More often than not, respite care is organised to allow a caregiver some time to rest and recharge. A respite stay is usually 2 4 weeks long, with the exact duration determined by your specific circumstances and the number of respite days allocated to you as part of your eligibility assessment. Relief for caregivers While caregivers prioritise taking care of others, it s important for their health and wellbeing to take time out for themselves now and again. Respite stays give carers and family members the opportunity to take regular breaks while knowing that their loved one is in a safe, supportive environment. A temporary change in your needs From time to time, you may need a little extra support to take care of your personal needs. This might follow a stay in hospital or period of illness, in which case we may be able to organise a respite stay for you at short notice.

The right kind of care for you Being away from your usual caregiver, home environment and daily routines can be unsettling. When you stay with us, you can be confident that you will continue to receive a high level of care and support. From help with showering or dressing to assistance with meals and medication, our team of nurses and personal-care assistants are there to help 24/7. Medical and nursing care If you are joining us after a stay in hospital or during a period of illness, our team of fully qualified, registered nurses will support your medical needs. Nursing staff are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week across all our sites. Many of our communities also have in-reach programs involving visiting podiatrists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and dieticians should you require these services. Affordable care The cost of respite varies depending on the length of your stay and whether you have an ACAT approval for this kind of care, in which case you can access residential respite for up to 63 days each financial year for around $50 per day (although this is subject to change). Home care funding from My can also be used to help cover the cost of respite care.

A place you can feel at home During your stay with Baptcare, you will be assigned a room with its own ensuite bathroom (with nurse call button), as well as high-quality furniture, fittings and linen. Everything you expect and more Our respite program is designed to relieve you and your caregiver of all the demands of daily life. This means that all meals, as well as laundry services and room cleaning, are provided. Simply turn up and leave the rest to us. Be part of the community While staying at Baptcare, you are welcome and encouraged to enjoy all the activities and amenities made available to our full-time residents. This includes our beautifully designed communal spaces and our activity programs, which typically include music, craft, games and exercise classes. Pastoral care and church services are also available.

Someone you can trust With more than 70 years experience in aged care, Baptcare is committed to offering residents the very best of care. We have been frequently recognised by the Australian Quality Agency s Better Practice Awards Program for the outstanding care we provide. All of our residential aged care communities are also accredited through the Australian Quality Agency.

If you need to call on someone, call on us It s normal to feel apprehensive about respite care, particularly if you have never used this kind of service before. But it can be extremely comforting to know that you and your family members have someone to call on, if the need arises. Let Baptcare be that someone for you.
