Purpose of the Business Unit: To provide a comprehensive and integrated residential treatment programme for up to 12 adolescent males who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours and have been referred by Oranga Tamariki offices throughout New Zealand. All these young people are assessed to be at high risk of repeating harmful sexual behaviour. The Residence is responsible for the care and accommodation, education and therapy to assist residents establish non-abusive lifestyles. Page 1 of 5
Result Areas Administration General administration duties are carried out in an accurate and efficient manner and all relevant information is accurately and securely maintained. Purchasing of all food, personal care items and cleaning products is managed within the established budget, and reasonable stock levels maintained at all times. A full and extensive inventory of existing supplies is undertaken on a monthly basis to ensure stock on hand and supplies remain within monthly budget figures. An efficient ordering system is maintained with accurate records of all requisitions and receipts available for finance accounting purposes. All records are kept up to date. A checking process is maintained for accuracy of food orders delivered. A realistic and efficient time management system and weekly task schedule is developed and adhered to. Tasks, timeframes and work patterns are adapted when necessary, in order to accommodate Te Poutama Arahi Rangatahi s model and philosophy, specifically the behaviour management system. Food Preparation: Youth in Barnardos care are provided with nutritionally balanced, meals produced in an appealing and timely manner. 6-weekly menu plan is developed and regularly reviewed in consultation with a dietitian, taking into consideration the specific differences of this population, in comparison with youth in more typical environments Youth with specific dietary requirements due to health, religion or culture are accommodated through consultation with appropriate professionals. Develop and maintain a nutritional programme that complies with Barnardos philosophies, policies and procedures. Effectively manage time so that meals are prepared in a timely manner. Designated food preparation tasks for Night Shift and weekend staff are communicated effectively and carried out within the specified timeframes All food preparation complies with Food Act 2014 and Food Regulations 2015. Food Safety & Hygiene Food is prepared following current food hygiene standards Page 2 of 5
Food standards and hygiene requirements comply with the Food Act 2014 and Food Regulations 2015 and meet audit standards that monitor this. All inwards goods are checked on receipt for levels of freshness and degrees of chill to meet requirements Ensure use by or best before dates of products are checked weekly and removed immediately if expired. Provide education and awareness training to staff about food, health and hygiene practices within the residence. The unit is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, including thorough weekly cleaning and monitoring of cleaning tasks undertaken by position holder and staff (excluding general maintenance issues). Refrigeration temperature checks to be completed as documented Ngā Pou e Whā (Māori Strategy) Ensure all relationships are built with consideration of the Barnardos principles and Ngā Pou e Whā (Māori Strategy). Have a sound understanding of the principles of Ngā Pou e Whā, the Treaty of Waitangi and the ability to apply them to everyday practice. The key of the role may change from time to time to ensure that Barnardos is able to adapt and respond to changes in the business environment. Effective and efficient time management and organisational skills Confident working with youth who present challenging behaviours. Effective written and oral communication skills Committed to working within a team focused on modelling non-abusive behaviours and attitudes to young people.
