MORE SCIENTISTS START HERE H Elsa entered St. Teresa s Academy with a talent for math and science. Throughout high school, she took a variety of courses to test where she belonged. She found that STA gave her a lot of opportunities to experience new things. In the end, Elsa found a love of pole-vaulting on the track and field team, and determined that she couldn t imagine a future without math, science and calculus. Upon graduation, Elsa had gained course credits in math and science two years ahead of many of her classmates, thanks, in part, to classes taken through the Online School for Girls. Her service experiences at Children s Mercy Hospital and Grace Hospice helped lead her to the decision to enter Northwestern University as a Biomedical Engineering major. Elsa envisions a career as a cellular and molecular engineer. As a math and science geek at an all-female school, I got support from my classmates. An all-female school promoted an empowering environment that I was able to grow in, receive support in, and ultimately be the most successful in - academically and socially.
MORE ARTISTS START HERE H Cat has always known that she is an artist. She discovered her passion for fashion design while taking the Technical Theatre class at STA. In this class, she learned each aspect of theatrical production, including costume production, which highlighted her fashion design talents. During her creative years at STA, Cat won numerous awards, including 2017 Gold Key Awards in Art Portfolio, Fashion, and Animation from the Scholastic Art Awards. In choosing her college, she had an impressive list of college acceptances. Cat will be attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Although Cat is not sure of her final career goal, she knows that she will always be involved in making wearable art. The support I received from friends and peers at STA helped to make me the person and artist that I am today. They re always in the front row, cheering me on.
MORE ATHLETES START HERE H Lauren has literally been soaring over hurdles during her years at St. Teresa s. As a member of the track and field team since her freshman year, she has stacked up achievements in hurdles, high jump, long jump, and the heptathlon. Lauren shares credit for her athletic accomplishments with her hurdle coach at STA. She states, My coach has been able to shape me into the young woman I am today by showing me what hard work and dedication can accomplish. Lauren will continue her track career at Marquette University. She is one of STA s 16 intercollegiate athletes from the class of 2017. If it weren t for my coach s help, and the support of St. Teresa s, I wouldn t have been able to accomplish all that I have in my high school track career.
MORE PEER MINISTERS START HERE H Marin s theological education and service experiences at St. Teresa s led her to a passion and commitment to the pro-life movement. To share the message of love and life with her fellow students, she founded the Stars for Life club on campus. Marin will continue her education at the University of Kansas where she has ambitious plans for continuing to share the message and gospel of life on a larger campus. She intends to enter the School of Business with an emphasis in non-profit leadership and management. Her long-term career goal is to open maternity homes, which will serve women in crisis, both in their pregnancy and beyond. She stated that she has learned throughout her time at St. Teresa s Academy to find God in all things I do. One of the most profound lessons I will take from STA is to serve your neighbor without distinction. All are called to love.
MORE JOURNALISTS START HERE H Madi sharpened her writing skills through STA s journalism program, including her work on the Dart, the print and online newspaper produced by students. She has filled a number of leadership roles on the newspaper s staff, eventually landing as managing editor of Web for DartNewsOnline (visit dartnewsonline.com). Madi s hard work, experience, and a perfect ACT score of 36 earned her a prestigious spot in the Stamps Scholar Program at the University of Missouri Columbia, where she will enter the Honors College. In reflecting on her time at STA and the Dart, Madi stated, Through this news program, I have found my passion, my home, my best friends and my future career. When I was going through chemotherapy for cancer freshman year, the only reason I d get out of bed and come to school some days was to attend journalism class. Even now, newspaper is regularly the highlight of my day. I ve had innumerable opportunities at STA and with the Dart to develop and learn more about myself, both academically and personally, through failures and successes.
