Leadership. Education. Commitment. James O. Gray Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund
A recent analysis by BP Corporation concluded that within 5 years there would be a 40% shortage of the qualified automation engineers and technicians needed to engineer and maintain process plant operations.
Leadership. James O. Gray (1946-2002) A Supporter of Fieldbus A Friend of the Foundation. The James O. Gray Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund, founded in 2003, honors Jim Gray, an engineer and lifelong practitioner in the Instrumentation, Automation, and Systems industry. Jim was a key contributor on the work to develop and establish FOUNDATION fieldbus technology. Because of Jim s significant and lasting contributions to the fieldbus community, the Fieldbus Foundation has established a scholarship endowment in his name. Through the James O. Gray Endowment Fund, deserving students seeking a career in industrial automation will be awarded scholarships allowing them to pursue their educational goals. Technology growth: Driving the need for skilled professionals As global adoption of FOUNDATION fieldbus continues to grow, the need for skilled professionals trained in this revolutionary technology is imminent. The ARC Advisory Group reported, FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 leads the way both in terms of process fieldbus networks installed and future plans to install. ARC also predicts that FOUNDATION fieldbus High Speed Ethernet (HSE) implementations will dominate the sensor, actuator and controller market for all other manufacturing applications. Studies have shown that the number of fieldbus devices and systems now in service has doubled over the last three years. Meeting the demand for qualified personnel to work with fieldbus control systems will require new types of education and training. The James O. Gray Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund will expand the opportunities for students to prepare for this new professional environment.
