Personal Support Worker (PSW) What is it? A PSW is a front line healthcare worker who assists clients with Activities of Daily Living The PSW supports clients with their personal hygiene, mobility, dietary and elimination needs. The PSW also supports the psychosocial and emotional needs of the client.
is part of a health care team; provides compassionate and professional care to vulnerable individuals; positively influences individual and community growth. Home care and group home clients may also need assistance with household management including laundry, cleaning and meal preparation.
Specifically to provide: educational training that follows MOHLTC/OCSA standards; ethical and fair training for the adult learner; educational training programs that reflect individual workplaces; innovative programs that will contribute to local, regional and global collaboration;
Specifically to provide (continued) quality skills development programs that reflect the changing needs of the community; exceptional customer service that respects the dignity and individual needs and aspirations of the client; professional development opportunities for communities and organizations; career and transition assistance to assist individuals in meeting.
Who is eligible? 1. 21 years of age or older; 2. TB screening two step Mantoux test; (6 months and x-ray clearance 3 months) 3. Medical form indicating good health, immunization and Flu Shot; 4. Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance, prior to clinical placement. (6 months)
Eligibility (continued) 5. Mature and responsible attitude; 6. Show a sincere interest in working with the elderly / disabled; 7. Have a professional attitude including a good work ethic understands the importance of reliability, teamwork and accountability
Eligibility (continued) 8. Attendance attending class every day is critical to the success and mandatory to complete the hours; Classes begin at 9:30 to 2:30, Monday to Friday St. Kateri 9. Literacy level adequate to complete all tests and assignments with at least 70% in all modules Literacy test must be completed before accepted into the program. (1 hour)
Eligibility (continued) 10. Proficiency in English (verbal /written/listening) 11. If English is not your first language you must have completed level 7 in ESL 12. Be physically able to meet the demands of this program and participate fully in practicum
Mobility Lab - Team work
Literacy Component Learners must obtain 70% in all modules and 80% in safety, mobility and hygiene labs. Learners who obtain between 50% and 70% will receive the OSSD credit, but not PSW certification Learners must be mature, dedicated, respectful and excellent attendance.
Schedule Program begins January 22 nd, 2018 Monday Friday, 9:30 2:30, St. Kateri - Theory on Site and some labs may be off site - Written tests, homework, study habits Co-op component Proof of Immunization, Criminal Check/Vulnerable Sector #1 Long Term Care 6:30 am start time. 8 hours, Monday- Friday #2 - Community Start time varies. 8 hours, Monday - Friday
Fees $1500.00 (Payment installments of $500.00 ) Not included in this fee: 1. CPR/First Aid Standard Level HCP (Health Care Provider) Certificate. Student must arrange and complete before the program commences. i.e. St. John Ambulance, Red Cross, Heart and Stroke 2. Three original copies of a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (Peel Regional Police Headquarters, Hurontatio Street, Brampton) January 2018 $33.00 for adults over 25 years of age and $25.00 for seniors and ages 21-24 years of age 3. Food Handling course 4. $30.00 for Pre-requisite course TPJ 20
Fees continued 4. A uniform (scrubs) 5. Shoes 6. Immunizations; TB test, vaccines 7. Immunization Record (Cost could occur for a request for medical information from your physician) 8. Note from doctor; x-ray clearance 9. Textbook (approx. $150.00)
