International Scholar Exchange Fellowship The International Scholar Exchange Fellowship(ISEF) program aims to enhance academic exchange and cooperation among international scholars by providing them with an opportunity to visit and stay in Korea for one year(or six months) to conduct research. This program was implemented in 1999, and began supporting scholars in early 2000. The first to eleventh cohorts of the ISEF laureates, totaling 573 scholars from Asian countries such as China, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam have safely returned to their home countries after successfully completing their research for a year in Korea. The twelfth cohort, the ISEF laureates for 2011-2012, consisting of fifty-seven scholars from such Asian nations as Cambodia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia and Vietnam safely arrived in Korea this past August. They have successfully embarked upon, and are currently conducting their proposed research in collaboration with their host scholars at nine major universities and research institutions in Korea. Recently, the West has shown a growing sense of awareness in traditional Asian culture and ideas through their reflection on Western civilization. As evidenced by such development, Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies believes that, in the 21 st century, a new culture in which Asian values and thoughts interact with Western ideas will play a vital role. Thus, the ISEF Program has been implemented as a no-strings-attached research support program to help other countries Arrival of the 2011-2012 ISEF Laureates 6 International Scholar Exchange Fellowship 2012-2013
