Armed Forces Day pays tribute to nation s protectors Gen. Henry H. Shelton Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands Gen. Henry H. Shelton (See ARMED, page 2) Local police pause to honor fallen comrades Kwajalein Police Officer Bruce Whitcomb, along with fellow Kwajalein Police personnel and Kwajalein Atoll Local Government officers, took a few moments Monday evening to remember fallen comrades during National Police Week. May 15 is designated National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week of May 15 is National Police Week. This is the third year the observance has been held on Kwajalein. Already this year in the United States, 46 police officers have been killed in the line of duty. Since 1794, more than 14,000 law enforcement officials have been killed. Sodexho Marriott officials said about a thousand residents turned out for the event, which also featured such culinary delights as homemade strawberry shortcakes, platters of barbecued ribs, and fruit smoothies.
