SCOPE This plicy applies t children, families, staff, management and visitrs f the Service. IMPLEMENTATION First aid is the emergency aid r treatment given t persns suffering illness r injury fllwing an accident and prir t btaining prfessinal medical services if required. It includes emergency treatment, maintenance f recrds, dressing f minr injuries, recgnitin and reprting f health hazards and participatin in safety prgrams. Legislatin that gverns the peratin f apprved children s services is based n the health, safety and welfare f children, and requires that children are prtected frm hazards and harm. Administratin f First Aid Plicy / QA2

Management is respnsible fr: Safeguarding every reasnable precautin t prtect children at the Service frm harm and/r hazards that can cause injury Ensuring that at least ne educatr is in attendance at all times with current apprved first aid qualificatins and is immediately available at all times that children are being educated and cared fr by the Service. This can be the same persn wh has anaphylaxis management training and emergency asthma management training. Ensuring a risk assessment is cnducted prir t an excursin t identify risks t health, safety, r wellbeing and specifying hw these risks will be managed and minimised. Ensuring that first aid training details are recrded and kept up t date n each staff member s recrd. Ensuring there is an inductin prcess fr all new staff, casual and relief staff, that includes prviding infrmatin n the lcatin f first aid kits and specific first aid requirements and individual children s allergies. Ensuring that parents are ntified when practicable r within 24 hurs if their child is invlved in an incident, injury, trauma r illness at the Service and that details are recrded n the Incident, Injury, Trauma and Illness Recrd. Ensuring the Regulatry Authrities are ntified within 24 hurs if a child is invlved in a serius incident, injury, trauma r illness at the Service. Ensuring that staff members are ffered supprt and debriefing subsequent t a serius incident requiring the administratin f first aid. Ensuring a resuscitatin flw chart is displayed in a prminent psitin in the indr and utdr envirnments f the Service. Keeping up t date with any changes in prcedures fr administratin f first aid and ensuring that all educatrs are infrmed f these changes. A Nminated Supervisr/ Respnsible Persn will: Maintain a current apprved first aid qualificatin Administratin f First Aid Plicy / QA2

Supprt staff when dealing with a serius incident, trauma Prvide and maintain an apprpriate number f up-t-date, fully-equipped first aid kits that meet Australian Standards Prvide and maintain a transprtable first aid kit that can be taken t excursins and ther activities Mnitr the cntents f all first aid kits and arranging replacement f stck, including when the use-by date has been reached Dispse f ut-f-date materials apprpriately Ensure safety signs shwing the lcatin f first aid kits are clearly displayed Ensure that all educatrs apprved first aid qualificatins, anaphylaxis management training and emergency asthma management training are current and meet the requirements f the Natinal Act and Natinal Regulatins and are apprved by ACECQA. Prvide internal training f the administratin f an aut-injectin device annually and dcumenting n staff files Keep up t date with any changes in the prcedures fr the administratin f first aid Cntact families immediately if a child has had a head injury whilst at the Service. Ensure that apprpriate dcumentatin is being recrded by Nminated Supervisr / Respnsible Persn regarding incidents, injury, trauma and illnesses and the administratin f first aid. Dcumentatin f the fllwing must be recrded; Name and age f the child Circumstances leading t the incident, injury, trauma r illness (including any symptms) Time and date Details f actin taken by the service including any medicatin administered, first aid prvided r Medical persnnel cntacted Details f any witnesses Names f any persn the service ntified r attempted t ntify, and the time and date f this Signature f the persn making the entry, and time and date f this. Educatrs will: Administratin f First Aid Plicy / QA2

Implement apprpriate first aid prcedures when necessary Maintain current apprved first aid qualificatins, and qualificatins in anaphylaxis management and emergency asthma management, as required Practice CPR and administratin f an aut-injectin device annually Ensure that all children are adequately supervised while prviding first aid and cmfrt fr a child invlved in an incident r suffering trauma Ensure that the details f any incident requiring the administratin f first aid are recrded n the Incident, Injury, Trauma and Illness Recrd accurately. Cnduct a risk assessment prir t an excursin t identify risks t health, safety r wellbeing and specifying hw these risks will be managed and minimised Parents will: Sign Service recrds f accidents r injuries that have ccurred, acknwledging they have been made aware f the incident and the first aid that treatment that was given t the child. Prvide the required infrmatin fr the Service s medicatin recrd Prvide written cnsent (via the enrlment recrd) fr service staff t administer first aid and call an ambulance, if required. Be cntactable, either directly r thrugh emergency cntacts listed n the child s enrlment recrd, in the event f an incident requiring the administratin f first aid. First Aid Kit The Apprved Prvider f the Service will ensure that first aid kits are kept in accrdance with Natinal Educatin and Care Service Regulatins. All First Aid Kits at the Service must: Be suitably equipped Nt be lcked Nt cntain paracetaml Administratin f First Aid Plicy / QA2

Be suitable fr the number f emplyees and children and sufficient fr the immediate treatment f injuries at the Service. Be easily accessible t staff and educatrs Be cnstructed f resistant material, be dustprf and f sufficient size t adequately stre the required cntents Be capable f being sealed and preferably be fitted with a carrying handle as well as have internal cmpartments. Cntain a list f the cntents f the kit. Be regularly checked using the First Aid Kit Checklist t ensure the cntents are as listed and have nt depreciated r expired. Have a white crss n a green backgrund with the wrds 'First Aid' prminently displayed n the utside Be easily recgnisable Be easy t access and if applicable, lcated where there is a risk f injury ccurring. Include emergency telephne numbers, the phne number and lcatin f the nearest first aid trained educatrs Be given precautinary measures such as sunscreen prtectin and prtable water if wrking utdrs. Be taken n excursins and be attended by First Aid qualified educatrs. Be maintained in prper cnditin and the cntents restcked as required. All ur staff are required t maintain First Aid qualificatins as a cnditin f emplyment. These individuals are respnsible fr cnducting and maintaining each first aid kit by cmplying with the First Aid Checklist, certifying each Kit has the required quantities, items are within their expiry dates and sterile prducts are sealed. This will ccur after each use r if unused, at least annually. Individuals alng with the Nminated Supervisr will als cnsider whether the first aid kits and cmpnents are apprpriate and effective fr the Service s hazards and the injuries that have ccurred. If the kit requires additinal resurces, these individuals will advise and fllw up with the Nminated Supervisr. Administratin f First Aid Plicy / QA2

Our Service will display a well-recgnised, standardised first aid sign t assist in easily lcating first aid kits. Signage will cmply with AS 1319:1994 Safety Signs fr the Occupatinal Envirnment.
