Detectives Manuel Cuervo, Dawn Augusto and SRO Deputy Dave Stark, all members of the Hostage Negotiation Team training on two new Negotiation phones. The employees of Denny s at the 97 mile marker in Key Largo donated this Panda cup to Deputy Kerns to show their appreciation of Law Enforcement and how much they appreciate Deputy Kerns stopping in and checking on them throughout the night. The only catch was he had to wear the panda ears in the photo. Lt. Sheagren and Sgt. Paskiewicz took some Inmate Workers out to help the Key West Healthy Start Coalition set up their annual resale store at Kmart Plaza. Following a game of real life 3D Tetris loading the truck they got to utilize their childhood Erector Set skills to assemble numerous display racks. Some of the Sheriff s Office group that attended the recent American Legion Salute to Law Enforcement dinner in Islamorada. HIDTA Intelligence Analyst Janet Moore is very proud of her son, Sean Allen (second from the left) for his promotion to Staff Sergeant in the Air Force. Allen was in the MCSO Explorer program for three years and has been in the Air Force for seven years. Isabella wanted to know what police do so she was given a tour of the Islamorada Substation by Deputy Caridad Bellon, who answered all of her questions. On September 2nd, the new Explorer Color Guard members made their debut at the first home game at Marathon High School. They were very excited that Sheriff Ramsay said a few words to them before they marched out on the field. Soon they will be participating with the 9/11 ceremony at the Kirk of the Keys church in Marathon. Thirteen Monroe County athletes participated in Florida Special Olympics State Games recently. This industrious group, coordinated by Sgt. Sheila Seago, cleaned up the area around the 102 mile marker of U.S. One in Key Largo today. While doing so, they found some unpleasant and unsightly graffiti behind the Circle K Store (below) and painted it out. I blurred one of the offensive words, but I m sure you can use your imagination. Needless to say were happy to paint over it. Sgt. Scott Ward and his shift conducted a Crime Watch meeting for the residents of Keys RV Park in Key Largo. Sgt. Syd Whitehouse and his shift spent time cleaning up Jo Jean Way in Tavernier. Here is Sgt. Whitehouse and Tracy, who manages the Coconut Palm Inn, who thanked them for spending the time and effort to keep the neighborhood clean. Traffic Deputy Jason Keith continues his efforts to keep Card Sound Road clean. He found this and a bunch more graffiti along with some signs that were damaged. He is going to work with The Card Sound Road and Bridges Division to clean it all up and replace the signs. Additionally, he chased some trespassers away from a small beach on Card Sound Road then discovered a large amount of trash left behind. He filled a garbage bag three times before he was finished picking up after them. Deputies Annette Simo, Daniel Hill, Seth Hopp and Sgt. Whiteman participated. Lt. Mike DiGiovanni and Deputy Aaron Coller at the Hero s 5K at Hawks Cay. Deputy Coller participated in the race. Emergency Communications Director Laura White returning a shopping cart and picking up trash at U.S. One and 107th Street in Marathon. Members of District One and Four/Five CIU Units attended a tactical medical course recently with training in how to apply tourniquets, compression dressings and how to evaluate a trauma patient. The training was put on by the Multi jurisdictional Couterdrug Task Force and was held at the Rescue 14 station.
