Hackathon to help the homeless

United States Department of State SECRETARY S OFFICE OF GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS F I S H A C K A T H O N 2 0 1 6 The Challenge Small-scale fishermen in developing countries face growing challenges. Their catches are declining because of overfishing and, in some cases, the degradation of the marine environment. They spend more money on fuel and more time out on the ocean to catch enough to make ends meet. And they can t keep up with competition from larger vessels that in some cases are fishing illegally. With 50% of the fish caught for human consumption coming from small-scale and artisanal fisheries, the livelihoods of these fishermen are crucial for their communities. To address these fishery management challenges, we need to find innovative ways to collect data and use it to find solutions. The History Launched in 2014 around Secretary Kerry s Our Ocean conference, Fishackathon was established to bring together volunteer coders to create tools to address challenges in sustainable fishing around the world. The pilot Fishackathon brought together coders in 5 cities around the United States, and the second annual Fishackathon in 2015 expanded to 12 cities worldwide, including hackathons in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The Hackathon Kicking off Earth Day 2016, the U.S. Department of State will hold the third annual Fishackathon from April 22-24. Volunteer coders, technologists, and designers will spend a weekend developing usable solutions to problem statements solicited from fisheries experts around the world. At the end of the hackathons, teams will present their work and an expert panel of judges will nominate a winner from each site, eligible for worldwide grand prizes. Call for Partnership Host sites are seeking fisheries and technology experts to participate in the hackathon as: Panel Judges Panel Judges will serve to judge host site creations and chose one host site winner eligible for world -wide grand prizes on Sunday, April 24. Judges will be provided with a list of criteria to rate the host site presentations and submissions. On Site Consultant Consultants will serve to provide subject matter/technical assistance, answer questions, and provide feedback to coders. We re also seeking on call experts who can answer questions and provide feedback to teams around the world via Skype or E-mail throughout the weekend. Team Member Join a Team! Everyone is welcome to participate in a local or virtual team. Spread the Word The US Department of State will ramp up outreach and awareness efforts beginning early February to highlight Fishackathon 2016 and the fisheries issues that coders will work to address at the event. Spread the word, get your networks involved, join our movement to save our oceans! Summer 2016 Internship Recruitment Descriptions. Technology Strategist: Andrew Hung; ahung@leapdoctor.com; 517 999 4604 Algorithm for Calendar Scheduler: Leapdoctor.com invites you to take part in a special project where we create and apply a data sorting algorithm to one of our web applications. The main focus of this algorithm will be to produce the best case scenario given a set of circumstances. We have a web application that creates the work shift schedules of physicians in healthcare facilities. Currently, a schedule administrator needs to take all work schedule requests from the physicians and adjust the schedule so that staff coverage is adequate for the healthcare facility. The manual procedure and complexity of certain situations can cause this process to be extremely tedious and overwhelming. We want to remove this human interaction and turn it over to a computer to sort. This solution will be very appreciated by the healthcare facility, freeing up valuable time and thus ultimately, providing better, more efficient healthcare. See below for an example of the scenario. [ Example: Mary needs to put together a work schedule for 18 physicians to staff across two hospitals. 2 doctors can only work 3 days during the week. 3 doctors have personal matters to attend to on certain days. 2 doctors are requesting 3 days of vacation this week. 1 doctor just called out sick today. 4 doctors prefer to work only nights. The two hospitals have 12hr day / night shifts, need to be staffed with at least 3 doctors per shift with 1 on call. Given the names of the doctors and their circumstances produce the work schedule that is suitable for all parties involved. ] Web Application: Come be part of a real deal web application development and gain experience in a production environment! At Leapdoctor.com, we strive to be the number one resource for Healthcare Providers to continue their career progression and job placement / relocation. Healthcare is an industry where time is critical, and having the right people at the right time makes a world of difference. Physicians don t always have the time to search for opportunities that best meet their preferences and specialty. Hospitals don t always have the time to search for the specific physicians that meet their criteria. At Leapdoctor.com, we serve the hospitals and physicians in closing the gap and finding the best matches between facility and practitioner. As with all things, change is constant. At leapdoctor.com we are growing and evolving. The current web application is reaching the end of its lifecycle and we are ready to start developing a new, updated and more robust web application to keep up with the growing demands of our clients and the enormous amounts of data that we process every day. This new web application will be developed alongside of the running business application and be released in a seamless and efficient migration.

Summer 2016 Internship Recruitment Descriptions. Technology Strategist: Andrew Hung; ahung@leapdoctor.com; 517 999 4604 Conference Finder: Leapdoctor.com continues to innovate solutions for our healthcare professionals and making their jobs and lives easier, because efficiency in our healthcare system matters and our health professionals need every minute of time they get. In order for our healthcare professionals to stay licensed and current with trends and practices they must undergo routine annual education requirements. These sources are not always best organized for the physician to search, apply and attend. We have created a conference finder for mobile platforms where Healthcare Providers can search, understand and decide to attend continuing education conferences that best meet their needs and schedules. This mobile application is growing to be a major project and we need additional engineers to refine it. Come join this team and contribute to the world of healthcare by applying your skills in mobile application development.
