The Romulus Senior Center will provide free tax services through AARP and the help of our City Treasurer. If you are 60 or older, handicapped or low income individuals, please have your paper work ready in order to sign up for your tax appointment. No walk-ins please. We are looking forward to all the wonderful programs and fun events going on at the Senior Center. We are excited to roll out our new classes on Pinterest, wellness and healthy eating tips. It will all start in the month of April, so stay tuned. Recipe Exchange: Easy Irish Beef Stew 2 T. olive oil 3 T. all-purpose flour 2 lbs. beef chuck, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes 1 lb. carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks 6 large potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks 1 white onion, cut into large chunks Ingredients Directions 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 c. beef broth 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste 1 (12 fl. oz.) can or bottle of irish stout beer (ex. Guiness) 1 T. cold water 1 T. cornstarch 1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Toss beef cubes with flour to coat, then fry in the hot oil until browned. 2. Place carrots, potatoes, onion and garlic in a large slow cooker. Place meat on top of vegetables. 3. Mix together beef broth and tomato paste and pour into the slow cooker along with the beer. 4. Cover and cook on high for 6 hours, or on low for 8 hours. During the last hour before serving, dissolve the cornstarch in cold water and then stir into the broth. Simmer on the high setting for a few minutes to thicken. Need Food? Low income residents are eligible for free commodities each month.
