The Romulus Senior Center will provide free tax services through AARP and the help of our City Treasurer. If you are 60 or older, handicapped or low income individuals, please have your paper work ready in order to sign up for your tax appointment. No walk-ins please. Call the Senior Center now to schedule your appointment. Message from the Director, Rose Swidan SPRING-SPRING-SPRING Winter is on its way out, and summer is almost here. We are looking forward to all the wonderful programs and fun events going on at the Senior Center. Stop by and pick up the Communicator it will be ready by the fourth week of every month so you can plan accordingly. We are excited to roll out our new classes on Pinterest, wellness and healthy eating tips. It will all start in the month of April, so stay tuned. We have new trips to Turkeyville, ride the River Queen on the Au Sable River and a tour of Detroit with a meal at the Whitney. Message from Mayor Burcroff March brings hope for warmer weather and time with family. I wish you a happy St. Patrick s Day, Happy Easter and first day of spring. On March 12th I am hosting the Mayors Ball Fundraiser with the Mayor of Belleville, Kerreen Conley, to benefit the Romulus and Belleville Boys and Girls Clubs. Recipe Exchange: Easy Irish Beef Stew 2 T. olive oil 3 T. all-purpose flour 2 lbs. beef chuck, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes 1 lb. carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks 6 large potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks 1 white onion, cut into large chunks Ingredients Directions 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 c. beef broth 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste 1 (12 fl. oz.) can or bottle of irish stout beer (ex. Guiness) 1 T. cold water 1 T. cornstarch 1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Toss beef cubes with flour to coat, then fry in the hot oil until browned. 2. Place carrots, potatoes, onion and garlic in a large slow cooker. Place meat on top of vegetables. 3. Mix together beef broth and tomato paste and pour into the slow cooker along with the beer. 4. Cover and cook on high for 6 hours, or on low for 8 hours. During the last hour before serving, dissolve the cornstarch in cold water and then stir into the broth. Simmer on the high setting for a few minutes to thicken. Need Food? Low income residents are eligible for free commodities each month.
