Quarterly Mental Health Conferences Preventing Teen Suicide: Connecting the Community Saturday, February 24, 2018 CHOC Children's Wade Education Center 1201 W. CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES Conference Description This event is part of a series of trainings for pediatricians on identifying, managing, and referring children with mental health disorders. Over 3 years, these trainings will focus on a range of topics, such as, depression, suicide, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder. The intent is to help pediatricians increase their knowledge and comfort in managing the children with mental health disorders in their practice. These trainings, along with other educational outreach programs, are funded through a grant from the UniHealth Foundation. Who Should Attend Pediatricians, clinicians, and any other professional who care for the mental health of children and teens are invited to attend. Discipline-Specific Presentations Include Risk Factors and Treatment Considerations Assessment of Adolescent Suicidality Out of Tragedy, Development of Hope Development of School Suicide Policies Case Reviews from the Primary Care Physician Community Mobilization of Parents At the conclusion of the 4-hour educational setting, the participant should be able to: 1. Identify at least two treatment or support resources in the community for children living with mental health disorders. 2. Develop a mental health referral plan. 3. Provide at least one handout in your practice that could be given to parents who have children with mental health concerns. At the conclusion of the 4-hour motivational interviewing workshop, the participant should be able to: 1. Use motivational interviewing strategies to offer mental health referrals for mental health treatment to patient/families. Accreditation CHOC is accredited by the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CHOC designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this live activity. Nurses: The California Board of Registered Nursing recognizes that Continuing Medical Education (CME) is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements; as long as the course is certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit (rn.ca.gov). Nurses will receive a Certificate of Attendance following this activity that may be used for license renewal. Psychologists: is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
