Instructions for Applying for Richmond Yacht Club Membership 1) Obtain three (3) sponsors and have each of your sponsors submit a letter of recommendation to the Club Office using the three (3) attached forms (which states the requirements to be a sponsor). 2) Have one of your sponsors introduce you at a General Membership meeting (held the second Wednesday of March, April, May, June, September, October, November, and December at 7:00 p.m.). By special request, you may be introduced at a meeting of the Membership Committee instead. 3) Submit your completed application and the Volunteer Interest Form to the Club Office along with payment for the initiation fee and first bimonthly dues. Please send two checks- one for the initiation fee and another for the duesmade payable to the Richmond Yacht Club. NOTE: Both the husband and wife are considered members, but in a single membership with one vote. The age of the older partner determines the initiation fee. A couple that meets the following definition of Domestic Partnership shall receive all membership benefits accorded to a married couple. Domestic Partners are two adults who have chosen to share one another s lives in an intimate and committed relationship. A relationship must meet all of the following eligibility criteria in order to be considered a Domestic Partnership: Each person must be the sole domestic partner of the other and intend to remain so, be at least 18 year of age and mentally competent to enter into a contract, not be currently married to another person, have shared a primary place of residence with his or her partner for at least two years and intend to do so indefinitely, and be jointly responsible for each other s welfare and for financial obligations to RYC. Domestic Partnership does not include roommates, siblings, parents or other similar relationships. *Associate membership is limited to those who do not possess a financial interest in a boat. ** Those changing from a Junior to a Special Youth/Collegiate shall pay the Youth/Collegiate initiation fee as a conversion fee. *** Senior membership may be requested by a Regular or Associate member who has been a member of RYC for at least 25 years (total years of membership), is at least 75 years old, and who does not own a boat. The older of the two partners in a family membership determines the qualifying age. ****Current and past RYC Junior members and/or participants in an RYC Junior or Youth sailing program are eligible for a special Youth/Collegiate membership that pays the Initiation fee only, with no yearly dues. This membership category was approved by the membership 12/13/2007. ***** It is not possible to join as a non-resident. NOTE: Those changing their membership category from Associate to Regular or from Special or standard Youth/Collegiate to Associate or Regular membership must pay the difference between the current initial fee for the old and new membership categories as a conversion fees. However, under RYC bylaws, section 6.15.c, a membership making one of these category changes shall be credited with twenty percent (20%) of the conversion fee for each full year of active membership to a maximum of eighty percent (80%) of the new membership category s initiation fee. 4) Once your completed Application, Volunteer Interest Form, required fees and sponsor letters are received by the Club Office, your application will be posted on the bulletin board in the lobby, and your name, along with those of your sponsors, will appear in the next issue of the RYC Storm Jib. 5) Following the Membership Committee s review of your application, their recommendation will be presented to the Board of Directors for action. You will receive an email notice of the action taken by the Board. Expect a minimum of sixty days between submitting your application and notification, depending on the time of year. NOTE: Due to the demand for berths and dry storage spaces, election to membership does not assure berth or storage space.
