As a result of the AAC Meeting and group discussion at the 2012 NACADA Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, the Commission has renewed efforts to develop several pre-conference workshops to provide a wider variety of topics for academic advising administrators. Particular emphasis was placed on connecting newly appointed academic advising administrators with peers in similar situations to exchange conversation and ideas outside of the conference as topics develop throughout the academic year. Various topics have been suggested including how to supervise and work with experienced academic advising staff as a new administrator. Also, it was suggested again to propose that the AAC develop two HOT TOPICS sessions; one at the beginning of the annual conference and one at the end of the conference, if possible. The goal is to have more offerings available for academic advising administrators timed throughout the annual conference. Section 4: Describe how you have incorporated diversity and inclusiveness of membership into the planning of your unit s goals and activities. What criteria were used to accomplish this (such as institutional type, ethnicity, new professionals, experienced professionals, role faculty, administrator, advisor; region, etc.)? The Advising Administration Steering Committee and work groups are made up of representatives of many institutional types including: community colleges, small private, large private, small public, large public four-year and large public research institutions, and online. The AAC also has representation on the steering committee from several of the NACADA regions. Section 5: Summary of Unit Communications and Meetings Report any meetings or teleconferences held among unit members, or other communications with unit members. After the annual conference in the fall, you should include a summary of your annual meeting held during the conference (including specific group meeting, date, location, number of members attending, and brief summary of the meeting. When updating the annual report in the summer, you might add a summary of discussions that you initiated on your unit s list serve or e-mail communications sent to all members of your unit since the annual conference.
