About Sheffield Children s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Sheffield Children s Hospital was first established in 1876. Since 1948 it has provided services under the NHS and in 1992 it was established as an NHS trust. On August 1 2006, it became Sheffield Children s NHS Foundation Trust under the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003. We provide dedicated healthcare for children and young people, including community and mental health care as well as acute and specialist services. The Trust has already moved towards a broader, more comprehensive approach to supporting children and families. Our aim is to be at the forefront of best practice in delivering high quality and integrated care to children and young people. Our specialist services receive referrals from the UK and internationally. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy About us Sheffield Children's Hospital provides an integrated physiotherapy and occupational therapy service that is divided into a number of teams; hospital team, community team, Ryegate team and CAMHS team. Within each team staff are divided into a number of speciality specific teams, for example orthopaedics and limb reconstruction, respiratory, metabolic bone disease, neurosurgery and oncology. The service receives referrals locally, regionally, nationally and sometimes internationally via the child s GP, Consultant, Health Visitor or other Allied Health Professional. What is Paediatric Physiotherapy Paediatric Physiotherapy is the diagnosis, treatment and management of children in relation to their physical function, ability and well being. The Physiotherapist will use a range of skills and techniques to educate, support, exercise and manipulate recover from injury or disease and rehabilitate or improve normal development and functional ability. What is Paediatric Occupational Therapy Paediatric Occupational Therapy is the diagnosis, treatment and management of children in relation to their occupations i.e. the things that children need to be able to do to lives their lives. Children's occupational roles include being part of the family, playing and leisure activities, self care, making friends and achieving in school, all of which contribute to their sense of identity and wellbeing. To support development of these different childhood occupations the Occupational Therapist uses skills, resources and techniques that address the physical, cognitive, psychological and social needs of the child and family. How To Get Here At the main hospital site we have many of our outpatient clinics, and all our beds for medical and surgical patients. We have intensive care and high dependency units to support our surgical and trauma services and also have our Emergency Department. Much of our admistration is done from buildings in this area. The Physiotherapy department is located on E-Floor of the Stevenson Wing. There is an entrance to the side of the hospital (Damer Street) located opposite Starbucks Coffee House. Library Services The library is located on F-Floor of the Stevenson Wing. Access from 0830-1700 is via the entrance situated on Damer Street (close to the junction with Western Bank and opposite the side of Starbucks). Access from 1700-1900 is via the Accident and Emergency entrance on Western Bank. We actively support all staff of Sheffield Children s NHS Foundation Trust and the wider regional paediatric healthcare community in adhering to evidence based practice, clinical governance, continuing professional development and research. Parents and carers are also welcome to visit the library.
