THOMAS A. EDISON HIGH SCHOOL COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES Thomas A. Edison High School is an award-winning high school in the San Antonio Independent School District in North Central San Antonio. It is one of seven comprehensive high schools in the district. The school was opened in 1929 on what is now the present-day campus for Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. In 1958, it relocated to its current location at 701 Santa Monica Dr. Edison boasts an enrollment of approximately 1,700 students. The faculty to student ratio is approximately 15:1 in core subject classes with a non-core class ratio of 20:1. Edison s mascot is the Golden Bear and the school s principal is Charles Muñoz. Edison offers thirteen Advanced Placement courses and fourteen Pre-AP courses, along with the UT of Austin Chem-Bridge College Chemistry, AVID, Health Professions Magnet Program, the Fire and Police Academy and nine Dual Credit Courses. Edison has been named among the 2,000 best public high schools in the country by Newsweek. It was also ranked 5th as the Best Urban Comprehensive High Schools and 3rd in Gold Ribbon High Schools for Math and Science. At Edison, we believe that success for every student is the only option.
