Nursing Assistant Program
Chaffey Nursing Assistant Program Chaffey College does not certify nursing assistants, they prepare the student for certification. Students must successfully pass this course to qualify to take the State CNA exam. Students must pass the State exam to become a CNA.
Certification An outside approved agency administers the state exam to successful students from the Chaffey College Nursing Assistant program. The fee for outside agency state exam is $100.00 payable to the outside agency in a money order or cashier s check at least 10 business days prior to the scheduled testing date. Chaffey will assist in arranging for exam dates and assist with proper paperwork required for certification.
California Department of Public Health Sacramento, CA This is the governing body for the Nursing Assistant program and certification. There are state regulations that must be followed. Student admissions are based on fulfillment of requirements.
State Requirements for entry to the program: Fingerprinting will be done prior to the first day of class, in which student will need to bring a current CA Driver s License/ State ID card. A physical examination completed on the appropriate health form. Drug Test: a 10 Panel Drug and Alcohol screening. CPR certification BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider American Heart Association. English/Reading Assessment 6 th grade level or higher
State requirements for completion of the NA course: 60 hours verified classroom instruction. 100 hours verified clinical instruction. Successful completion of all components of the Chaffey Nursing Assistant program.
Chaffey requirements for successful completion of the Nursing Assistant course Meet all state requirements. Complete all four classes in the Nursing Assistant program successfully: Lecture grade must be a 75% or above. Clinical grade and on-campus skills lab must = passing with credit (this portion is pass or fail). Professional Development must be 75% or above.

Criminal Background Those who answered yes to being convicted of any crime other than minor traffic violation (s) must submit additional information to the state with their application. Chaffey College is not responsible nor do we have information regarding Department of Public Health criteria regarding previous convictions. You must contact DPH directly (916) 327-2445.
Health Requirements A head-to-toe physical, hearing, vision, 2- Step TB or Chest X-ray, current season s influenza vaccination and a 10 panel plus ethanol urine drug test will be performed and signed by a physician or nurse practitioner. Student must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Chaffey needs copies of all lab results and immunization documentation. These results must be on the original laboratory sheet from the lab and immunization records.
Student Health Services Students currently enrolled in 1 unit or more can go to Chaffey College Student Health Services to have their health requirements completed.
CPR Only ONE type of CPR will be accepted: BLS Provider issued through the American Heart Association. Chaffey College nursing programs only recognize the CPR card one year from issue date even when card states it is valid for 2 years.
Equipment and Supplies Required: Blood pressure cuff Stethoscope Watch with a second hand Gait belt with a metal buckle Small notebook with a black pen Badge holder (landscape with clip)
Books and Materials Required: Mosby s NA book & workbook by Sorrentino Chaffey s NA program packet (All available at Chino campus bookstore) Advised to have ruled paper, #2 pencils, black inked pens, scantrons, index cards and 3-ring binder/s
Uniforms White uniform shirt with collar (no scrubs). White uniform pants (no tie strings and not cuffed ankles) or skirt or dress. White socks, white panty hose if wearing dress/skirt. White polishable shoes all enclosed. Chaffey name tag with photo ID (make sure you have your picture on file with the Admissions department).

Uniform NO-NO s No visible tattoos No artificial nails No hair on the collar No colored uniforms No scrubs No colors on the shoes No jewelry (except wedding band) No colored hair pieces No visible body piercings (except one pair of studs in bottom hole, lower lobe, of both ears)
Unclean and un-ironed uniforms are NOT acceptable.
Admission and Enrollment If you are not a Chaffey College student you must complete a Chaffey College application first to obtain a student ID number. Each student must go to the counseling department and make an appointment with a counselor, if they haven t done so. Each student must take the English/Reading assessment and score at a 6 th grade level or higher through the Counseling department.
Entry Requirements Turn in completed health form along with lab results and immunization record. Turn in proof of either the Reading or English assessment showing you can read and comprehend at the 6 th grade level or higher. All students must have all requirements finished and background clearance from CDPH prior to the first day of class they are entering.
