EDUCATION EXCHANGES SUPPORT FOUNDATION Higher Education Programmes Unit Geležinio Vilko str. 12, 01112 Vilnius, Lithuania E-mail: state.scholarships@smpf.lt Website: http://www.smpf.lt/en/statescholarships LITHUANIAN STATE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR LITHUANIAN (BALTIC) STUDIES AND LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SUMMER COURSES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014 Education Exchanges Support Foundation takes pleasure in offering the quota for Lithuanian state scholarships for students, lecturers and researchers of higher education and research institutions of those countries: Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Belarus, Croatia, Finland, Greece, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Mongolia, Romania, Russia, Philippines, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, United States of America, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan: 1. Scholarships for short-term Lithuanian (Baltic) studies (duration of studies one (up to 5 months) or two (up to 10 months) semesters per person). The quota of 70 months overall is offered for the candidates from the countries mentioned above. 2. Scholarships for the Lithuanian language and culture summer courses. 40 grants are offered for the candidates from the countries mentioned above. The scholarships are not intended for a full course of study. Normally, an academic degree or diploma cannot be obtained during the period covered by the scholarship. Studies must take place from September 2013 to June/July 2014. The autumn semester in higher education and research institutions of Lithuania normally lasts from September until January and spring semester from February until June. PART 1. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 1. The candidate has to be a student (not in the final year), lecturer or researcher of higher education and research institution in Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Belarus, Croatia, Finland, Greece, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Mongolia, Romania, Russia, Philippines, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, United States of America, United Kingdom or Uzbekistan. 2. Candidates for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies scholarship must have an official letter of acceptance issued by the host higher education and research institution in Lithuania. 3. Candidates applying for Lithuanian (Baltic) study scholarships are required to aggregate 30 ECTS per one semester in the respected field, and also must fulfill other requirements for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies (see Part 4). 4. Lithuanian state scholarships cannot be coupled with other grants or scholarships.

PART 2. FINANCIAL CONDITIONS 1. Financial conditions for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies: 1 st cycle (Bachelor), 2 nd cycle (Master) and 3 rd cycle (Doctorate) students approved for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies will receive a monthly stipend of 1.950 Lt (approx. 565 EUR); Researchers and lecturers approved for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies will receive a monthly stipend of 3.250 Lt (approx. 941 EUR). 2. Financial conditions for Lithuanian language and culture summer courses: 1 st cycle (Bachelor), 2 nd cycle (Master) and 3 rd cycle (Doctorate) students approved for the Lithuanian language and culture summer courses will receive a monthly stipend of 1.950 Lt (approx. 565 EUR); Researchers and lecturers approved for the Lithuanian language and culture summer courses will receive a monthly stipend of 3.250 Lt (approx. 941 EUR). NB. Stipend is intended to cover scholarship holder s expenses only. Additional amounts for accompanying partners or family are not provided. 3. Tuition fee for the studies or for Lithuanian language and culture summer courses will be paid on scholarship holder s behalf by the host country. The maximum amount of the tuition fee will be determined by the normative costs that are approved by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania. 4. Any other fees such as student union fee, library membership fee, etc. shall be paid by scholarship holder. 5. Accommodation costs shall be covered by the scholarship holder. Upon request, the host institution provides the scholarship holder with a place in a dormitory or a university guesthouse. Requests for accommodation in the international student dormitories must be submitted well in advance before arrival. Alternatively, foreign students and researchers may consider renting an apartment privately. Assistance with this is available from International Relations Office staff of the relevant higher education and research institution. PART 3. LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SUMMER COURSES In 2013 the Lithuanian language and culture summer courses will be organized at: No Institution Dates Website 1. Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences 5 th -29 th of August, 2013 http://www.lituanistai.vpu.lt/index.php?lang=en Applicants are free to choose 3 universities according to the priority and are required to specify the level of the Lithuanian language in the application form. Please be informed that the scholarship might not necessarily be granted to the university of your first priority. Applicants will be registered to the course immediately after the scholarship award is approved by the Committee of International Studies. Further and more detailed information about the courses is available at the universities websites indicated in this call. 4.1. Description PART 4. LITHUANIAN (BALTIC) STUDIES The Lithuanian language belongs to the Indo-European family of languages. It is one of the remaining two live Baltic languages boasting of numerous archaisms, the best-retained ancient system of sounds and a number of morphological peculiarities. The Lithuanian language courses organized by higher education and research institutions of Lithuania are intended for all applicants interested in Lithuanian or Baltic philology, Indo-European linguistics, Lithuanian literature, Lithuanian history, culture, ethnography and folklore. 4.2. Programme requirements for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies Applicants for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies scholarship are required to design their study programme which must include subjects from two groups of study fields below: 1. First group philology. Eligible study fields from this group are as follows: Baltic philology, Lithuanian philology, linguistics, literature. 2. Second group history, philosophy, theology and culture. Eligible study fields from this group are as follows: Lithuanian history, ethnology and folklore, culturology. Applicants for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies are required to aggregate 30 ECTS per one semester. The total credit value from study fields of both first and second groups should be not less than 22,5 ECTS in one semester. Remaining 7,5 ECTS credits of the study programme shall be chosen from other study fields at the discretion of the applicant. 4.3. PART 5. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS 5.1. List of documents to be submitted (in the order given). Please do not put each individual document into plastic sheets or binders: 1. Printed and signed online application form (form can be found on the website http://paraiskos.smpf.lt/registration/#topas 2. Official letter from the candidate s higher education and research institution approving the status of a student, lecturer or researcher. NB1. For students the letter must contain information on applicants current cycle of studies (1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd cycle), year of studies and expected date of graduation. 3. Transcript of academic records of the last two semesters issued by applicant s present higher education and research institution. 4. Certified copy of obtained higher education diploma or diplomas. 5. Two recommendation letters from home higher education and research institution (written within past six months). 6. Official letter of acceptance issued by the host higher education and research institution in Lithuania (except for the Lithuanian language and culture summer courses applicants). NB2. Applicants for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies scholarship this letter must contain information on the chosen subjects and the number of credits for each subject. 7. Detailed programme of intended studies (except for the Lithuanian language and culture summer courses applicants). 8. Copy of certificate of proficiency in English or Lithuanian (or another language acceptable for the host institution). NB3. TOEFL, IELTS, CPE or other widely recognized exams of English proficiency are acceptable. If the candidate does not hold any of those certificates, then a signed letter confirming the proficiency in the language from the home university s professor of English or Lithuanian is also acceptable. 9. Copy of the valid identity document. 5.2. Documents must be: 1. Completed in English or Lithuanian (or with certified translations into one of these languages). 2. Submitted in two (2) identical sets (one original set and one copy of the original set). Every set must be put into plastic sheet or envelope. 3. Typed and printed (handwritten documents will not be accepted). All copies must be clearly authorized as true copies of original documents by the issuing institution or a Notary Public (NP). Printed and signed online application form with additional documents mentioned in part 5.1. has to be sent by post. Documents submitted only online, sent by fax or e-mail will not be accepted. Incomplete applications or postmarked after the deadline will not be considered. 4

PART 6. IMPORTANT DATES 1 st of April, 2013 deadline for online application submission. Application form can be found at http://paraiskos.smpf.lt/registration/#topas. Online Application System will be closed at 12.00 Central European time (GMT+1). Printed and signed online application form together with all supporting documents must be sent by ordinary or registered post by 1 st of April 2013, date as per postmark. Applications postmarked after the deadline will not be considered. Awarded candidates will be informed personally by e-mail until: 3 rd of June, 2013 notification on the results for the Lithuanian language and culture summer courses; 2 nd of July, 2013 notification on the results for study, research scholarships and Lithuanian (Baltic) studies scholarships. PART 7. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - In order to arrange Lithuanian (Baltic) studies and receive an official letter of acceptance, a candidate is advised to contact directly the International Office of the chosen Lithuanian Higher Education Institution.
