Functional Relationships with : Internal Department of Anaesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine Other Waitemata DHB department staff External Patients/clients/consumer, families, whanau General Practitioners Other Healthcare Providers, Research Scientists and Research Personnel University Research Scientists and Research Personnel External agencies and suppliers Students (all disciplines including Medical / Nursing / Physiotherapy / Science) Purpose: To provide high quality technical and clinical research support to the researchers at the WDHB department of Anaesthesia and Collaborators. Responsibe for day to day running of research projects. To facilitate patient recruitment and data collection for existing research projects. To act as a liaison between clinical and research services of the Department of Anaesthesiology and patients, and other Clinical Services within and external to WDHB. To ensure services are delivered in accordance with WDHB Strategic Plans. Research Recruitment and follow-up of patients in research studies Data collection Responsibility for compliance of data collection and procedures with ethical standards Liaise with clinicians to identify and recruit appropriate patients to the study. Contacting and recruiting patients Collection of study data including clinical and demographic data collection, conducting neurophysiology, and genomic sample collection at perioperative clinics and on the ward. Database entry, data analysis and reporting including preparation of graphs, and tables for publication and reports Interpretation and data analysis of results of experiments Contributes to experimental design and planning of experiments with supervisor and conducts experiments with minimum supervision Research Support Maintenance of stocks and consumables for collection of samples and experiments Contributes to general administrative duties to ensure smooth running of research studies. Facilitate clinically relevant research Equipment and Maintenance Ensure excellent standard of cleanliness of research areas and that research equipment is properly maintained Other tasks that may be required by the Research Clinical Lead or designated Clinical Lead Other Quality of Service Treaty of Waitangi Meticulous in record keeping. Able to collect, construct and interpret data Able to conduct research activities in an independent manner Able to adapt and develop new skills / techniques Maintain adequate stocks of DNA and RNA tubes, printing and parking coupons to ensure smooth running of research work. Ensure room bookings and research facilities are available for research clinics. Assist in interdisciplinary research between the Department of Anaesthesiology and other hospital departments (e.g.general Surgery, Orthopaedics). Assist with submissions and research reports to regional ethics committee, hospital knowledge centre and relevant external agencies. Assist with grant application preparation in order to attract funding for research at WDHB. Liaise regularly with Manager and Research Clinical Lead and Clinical Director with respect to goals and areas of research priority. Ensure that WDHB resources are utilised effectively and to the highest standards Ensure research equipment is functioning correctly and maintained properly. Active participation in research and educational meetings. Networks with other scientists and clinical specialists to enhance the service for clients, and own professional development. Education to WDHB and external groups occurs in consultation with management. Demonstrates an understanding of the Principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how these relate to the development and application of service specific initiatives for Maori. Understands the holistic approach to Maori health. Develops and plans strategies that are responsive to the health needs or Maori.
