Escondido High School Local Scholarships 2018 Group I These scholarships require only the standard scholarship packet due February 13,2018 to Mrs. Barcoma in the counseling office Edwin S Bulen& Evelyn Huse Bulen Scholarship... $2000/TBA Scholarship awarded to a student who has a minimum GPA of 3.5, a good attendance record, shows evidence of financial need, and will be enrolled at a 4-year accredited college in the fall following graduation Carol Vitulli Memorial Scholarship...$200 Open to EHS student who plans to major in English and become an English teacher. Financial need a must. Scholarship can be used at a 2 or 4-year college. Curtis Ziegler Memorial Scholarship...$1000 Awarded to a male or female graduating senior from EHS with a 2.0-3.0 GPA, who plans to attend a 2-year college or vocational/trade school. Dr. David Cloyd Memorial Scholarship...$500-$700 Award for a student demonstrating high achievement, 3.00 GPA, good citizenship, and potential for success at a 4-year college. Scholarship is merit based. Escondido High School Ag Boosters Scholarship...TBA Awarded to a male or female student with a 2.5 GPA or better. To be used at a 2 or 4-year college or vocational school, must be a current member of EHS FFA and a graduating senior. Escondido High School Class of 56 Scholarship..2/$1000 Scholarship available to an EHS graduating senior that has attended EHS for at least three years, has at least a 2.00 GPA, but less than a 3.0 GPA, is a legal resident of the U.S., must be accepted to an accredited Community College or Trade School. Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition, books and/or fees. Recommend enrollment/participation in the FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE(FYE) and the SUMMER BRIDGE program as entering community college students. $500 awarded first semester to be renewed second semester upon successful completion of first semester with at least a 2.5 GPA with a minimum of 6 units. Selection Criteria At least 2.0 but less than 3.0 GPA Evidence of extracurricular/community service, Intended enrollment in Community College or Trade School, Legal Resident, Financial need, Clarity of essay. 1

Escondido High School Principal s Award...$100 Award for Escondido High School student planning to continue study in an academic or vocational field. Escondido Disposal Scholarship...$1,000 Award to students who have a desire to succeed, but may not have had the opportunity due to family commitments. Must attend Escondido, Orange Glen or San Pasqual High Schools. No minimum GPA. Must have financial need. May be used to attend vocational/trade school, 2 or 4- year college or university. Fred C. Hinrichs Scholarship...$500 Renewable scholarship for Escondido High student planning to major in agriculture at a 4-year college, minimum GPA 2.0. Koho-Mendiola Aquatic Scholarship...$300 Scholarship available to male/female water polo/swimming athlete. Must have financial need, be a team leader, and recognized as a valuable player on the team. Other considerations are number of related sports and years played. Lomax and Mary Smith Scholarship...$1000 Scholarship awarded for a student planning to pursue a career in education. Shizue May Nakatsukasa-Mukai Scholarship...$500 Scholarship available to a male or female student graduating from EHS who has shown exemplary citizenship, compassion and care for others thorough school or community service and plans to further his/her education in a 2 or 4 year college or university. R.G. Neubarth Memorial Scholarship.....TBA Scholarship available to a EUHSD high school student that has been accepted and will attend San Diego State University and has financial need. Preference is given to high school athletes, especially football players. Rope-Barber Family Scholarship....$500 Applicant should demonstrate an aptitude for science and/or interest in and willingness to help people in a health related occupation. The Treasurer s Scholarship $500 Scholarship available to student that has a 3.0 GPA or higher, has good citizenship, community service and potential for success at a 2 or 4 year college. Ivie Wickham Scholarship...TBA Award for one or more Escondido High School female students with a minimum GPA of 3.75 who plans to attend a 4-year college. 2

Group II These scholarships require their own application and/or additional information. These applications have various due dates. Due dates range from March 2 through June 30 Applications available starting February 13, 2018. All applications are due no later than 2:45pm on the due date. Check with Mrs. Barcoma in the counseling office. Section 1 Check Center Scholarship...2/$500 Scholarships are available to Escondido High School graduates who are planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college, university or vocational/training school, and are involved in their community. Cougar Athletic Club 2 year College Scholarship...$1000 One time award for varsity athletes, male and female planning to continue their education at a community college pursuing an academic or vocational interest. Cougar Athletic Club 4 year CollegeUniveristy Scholarship...$1000 One time award for varsity athletes, male and female planning to continue their education at a 4 year college or university pursuing an academic interest. C.S.E.A. Chapter 219 (EUHSD)...TBA Awarded to children of classified employees of the EUHSD who belong to CSEA and plan to attend an accredited college as a full-time student in the fall after graduation. Based on citizenship, need, scholastic average appropriate to student s plans for further education and attendance. Escondido High School Athletic Booster Club Scholarship...2/$500 Scholarships awarded annually to male and female athletes at EHS. Minimum GPA 2.8. Escondido Rotary Club Scholarship......$1000 Awarded to student based on special application. Selection made by Rotary scholarship committee. Community service, financial need, graduation senior in the Escondido Union High School District. Escondido Secondary Teachers Association...$500 Awarded to student who is a relative of an active member of the Escondido Secondary Teacher s Association. Jessie Klicka Foundation...$1,000 Awarded to students based on academic record, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Two nominees per high school may be submitted. 3

Jack Thoreson Memorial Athletic Scholarship...$1,000 Scholarship will be presented to a graduating senior from EHS. This senior must have displayed themselves as an athletic talent of significant impact during the course of their years at EHS. It is the intent of the Thoreson Family to give financial to a deserving student so that they may continue their studies and participate in collegiate athletics at the junior/community college, or university of their choice. Section 2 Group II Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA)...$2,000 One or more scholarships of up to $2,000 per year, renewable annually for a maximum award of $8,000 over four years are available. Available to San Diego County students majoring in science, math or engineering curriculum at 4-year, degree granting universities anywhere in the United States. Association of California School Administrators (ACSA)Palomar Chapter..$200 Scholarship available a graduating senior that resides within the Escondido Union High School District, Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District, Ramona Unified School District or Vista Unified School District. Student must be involved in school activities, job/volunteer act ivies and/or extracurricular activities. Athena- UCSD Connect Scholarship...$1,000 Scholarship available to female going to a 4-year college and majoring in science, math, engineering or computer science. BECA Foundation-Latino Scholarship...$250-$2,000 Scholarships available to Latino students with financial need, scholastic abilities and community contributions. Bill Gibbs Endowment Fund/RA Rearwin Scholarship Fund...$1,500-$2,000 For graduating San Diego County seniors who will be attending a 4-year college. Academic achievement and strong aviation/aerospace career interests. Brian Graves Memorial Scholarship......TBA Awarded to a student planning to major in marine biology at a 4-year college or university. Cabrillo Civic Clubs of California, Inc Scholarship...$500 4

Scholarship available to graduating seniors of Portuguese decent, must have a 3.50GPA, be a US Citizen or permanent resident attending an accredited community college, university or Trade school. Cal RTA (CA Retired Teachers Association)...$1000-$1500 The applicant must be a planning to attend a North San Diego County Community College or California State University San Marcos. Applicant must have a goal of earning a degree in the field of education. Consuelo Masonic Lodge...TBA Awarded to graduating senior students with community service record as well as good citizenship. Convair Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.......$2,000-$4,000 Leadership potential, community service and academic achievement are the basis of selection for this scholarship. Applicant must be planning to enter an accredited college/university in the fall semester following their senior year and must be a direct descendant (natural or adopted) of former employees of Consolidated Aircraft Corporation, Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation or General Dynamics, and who worked in the San Diego area. Don Diego Scholarship...$3,000 Awarded to an outstanding 4H or FFA student who has participated in the Del Mar Fair. Escondido Art Association...3/TBA EAA is looking for seniors from Escondido who has an interest in the art field and would use the scholarship to further his/her education Hidden Valley Kiwanis Youth Scholarship $500 Applicants must graduate with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and plan to attend a four year university, community college or trade school beginning no later than September 2017. Italian Catholic Federation...$400 Awarded to Catholic student of Italian ancestry who demonstrates financial need and has a GPA of 3.2 or better. Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Scholarship...$500 Award available to all students who demonstrate financial need and have high academic performance (3.8 GPA). School and community involvement and an essay on the Meaning of Nonviolence. 5

Martin Luther King, Jr. Educational Grant...$500 - $3,500 The MLKCCSD established the Visual & Performing Arts Educational Grants to support graduating high school seniors who will be majoring in the areas of visual and performing arts. MTS/Coca Cola Scholarship.... Computers and a Commemorative Plaque Applicants must be San Diego County high school seniors graduating in spring and who will be attending an accredited college. National Association of Women in Construction...2/$1,000 1.Scholarship available to male/female student pursuing college degree and has parent employed in the San Diego construction industry. 2. A female student pursuing a college degree in construction-related profession such as architecture, engineering or construction management. North County Building Industry Association Scholarship...TBA Available to students planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college/university/trade school, that is interested in pursuing a career in the building industry. North County Italian Association Scholarship...$1000 Scholarship available to a graduating high school senior, who plans to attend a four year or two year college, 3.00 GPA, 25% Italian ancestry, resident of north county San Diego and be a US Citizen. Patio Playhouse Community Theater Scholarship...$200-1000 Applicants must be a senior enrolled in a high school in Escondido, have participated in a high school or community theater arts program, plan to attend an institution of higher learning and have a declared emphasis in the performing arts or theater. R. B. Chorale Scholarship...TBA Awarded to student with talent in voice, piano, string or reed instrument. Must be planning to study in one of the above areas at a college or conservatory. Audition may be required. Resource Conservation District of San Diego Scholarship...$500 Three to five scholarships available to students with at least a 2.5 GPA who plan to enroll in an undergraduate college curriculum related to conservation or agriculture. San Diego Citizen s Foundation Scholarship...TBA Awarded to student who has been a resident of San Diego County for a minimum of one year and plans to attend a San Diego County college or university. Student must have a good citizenship record, and demonstrate financial need. Personal interview required. 6

San Diego Japanese American citizens League Scholarship...$1000-$2500 Scholarship available to high school seniors planning to enter a college in the fall. Students must be a member of the JACL to be eligible to apply.. Taiwanese American Foundation...$1,000 Selection of recipients will be based on the merit of scholastic achievement, academic honors, SAT scores, leadership/community service, and a one-page essay. The title of the essay How to promote racial harmony in our society. A minimum GPA 3.2 is required. UNICO Italian Association Scholarship...TBA Open to high school students intending to go to college/university. Minimum 25% Italian ancestry, minimum 3.0 GPA. In addition to this local scholarship, UNICO is offering four (4) National Scholarships of $6,000 each.
