The Adventure Recreation aspect of campus recreation focuses on peak experiences through exciting and challenging programming. Make use of canoes, kayaks, or sailboats on Pearly Pond; pick up a map of the on-campus trail systems; or join the fun on one of the dozen off campus trips that occur each semester including whitewater rafting, rock climbing, sea kayaking, skiing & snowboarding, caving, horseback riding, and ice climbing. Experience is not required for many of these activities. Intramurals is a great way to get involved in a wide range of sports and activities that cater to the entire university population. Intramurals are active most weekdays and weekends with teams all vying for the highly coveted Champion t-shirt. Examples of some of our 40 + intramural events include flag football, indoor soccer, inner-tube water polo, softball, 5 on 5 and 3 on 3 basketball, and our annual Ooze Ball Mud Volleyball Tournament. For more information, visit our website at: www.franklinpierce.edu/studentlife/todo/campus_recreation.htm and check out all the new information. For program updates, go to our AOL Instant Messenger - screenname: Franklinpiercecampusrec. Grand Monadnock Climb This unique Franklin Pierce tradition continues! The Grand Monadnock Climb is a must do event! At the start of every school year hundreds of Franklin Pierce students and staff are transported a short distance to Mount Monadnock to climb to the summit together. This year s climb is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6. Aquafina provides plenty of water and Sodexo services provides snacks and sandwiches after the descent. Family Day 2014 Please join us for Family Day on Sept. 27. All programs are held on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m., however, if you are planning to stay overnight it is advisable to make reservations for local accommodations as soon as possible as this date coincides with our peak foliage season. A list of lodging accommodations can be found on our website at: www.franklinpierce.edu/about/lodging/htm A complete schedule will be coming in late August. From Campus Safety The Department of Campus Safety holds the safety of our students, faculty and staff as their highest priority. Uniformed officers, available through our 24-hour communications center, patrol the campus year round to provide service and emergency response. Questions can be directed to (603) 899-4210. 3

From The IT Department Cable Television The University Cable Television provides service to all campus residences. Students may bring a television from home and receive Franklin Pierce Cable programming in their residence hall rooms. RG6 quality cables are required and may be brought from home or are available for purchase at the Franklin Pierce University Bookstore. If you plan to bring a television to campus, you need to be sure that it has QAM tuning capability. Most HD or digital TVs sold after 2006 have an internal digital QAM tuner. Check your owner s manual under the section about antennas and tuners. Please note that you are not allowed to install your own satellite dishes in on-campus residences nor mount televisons on the walls. Telecommunications Cell Phone Service U.S. Cellular has installed a cellular tower on campus and service is reasonably reliable in most buildings. Verizon Wireless has a reciprocal agreement with U.S. Cellular, and Verizon service is fairly dependable as well. Being in a mountainous area, cell phone service may be spotty. The best way to determine whether your cell phone works on campus is to bring it with you when you visit the campus. Telephone Service Upon request, Franklin Pierce provides local dial tone to each dorm room. Residents of these rooms need to provide one analog telephone to make or receive calls, and to access 911. Long distance calls can be made by using a calling card purchased by the student or parent. Voicemail Voicemail is availble upon request. Voicemail can be programmed to ring in your room so that people from off campus can reach you and your personal voicemail directly. To request a voicemail number, go to the link provided on the Accepted Students webpage at: http://www.franklinpierce.edu/admissions/ accepted_telcominfo.htm Email Franklin Pierce email is the University s official method of communication. Email provides faculty, staff, and students with an efficient and economical means of communicating among themselves, parents, home, and others. Students are required to access their Franklin Pierce email daily for up-to-date community information and individual communications. eraven.franklinpierce.edu The University s intranet provides community members with up-to-date information on events and activities. There is the Franklin Pierce Marketplace for buying and selling, a campus activity calender, as well as many other helpful links. Students are encouraged to utilize eraven, the campus Intranet at: eraven.franklinpierce.edu For information regarding minimum computer requirements and recommendations go to: http://www.franklinpierce.edu/studentlife/stservices/info_tech.htm Questions about any of the above? Please call (603) 899-1110 (The IT Help Desk). 4

Student Employment If you have been awarded federal work-study and are working on campus for the first time this year, you must complete a Federal I-9 Form to certify citizenship status. Please bring one of the following original documents to campus: Social Security card or birth certificate bearing seal plus Photo ID (driver s license, non-driver ID or FP ID). US passport may also be used (no other ID required). Please contact the Human Resources dept at (603) 899-4075 if you have any issues regarding furnishing these forms of ID. You will save 50% or more versus a new book price when renting textbooks that are available for rent. All pricing information is available on the bookstore website when you search for course materials for your upcoming classes. Rent-a-Text is here at Franklin Pierce University. For more information go to www.rentatext.com Vehicle Registration & Parking Permit Process All students wishing to have a vehicle on campus must register the vehicle with Campus Safety and apply for a parking permit. This can be accomplished through Campus Web. Parking Permit Application Instructions 1. Navigate to: eraven.franklinpierce.edu 2. Click on Campus Web 3. Login to Campus Web 4. Click on the Campus Life Tab on the top menu bar 5. Click on Parking Permits on the left menu list 6. Click on Parking Permit Application 7. Complete Form 8. Submit After you submit your application, the Department of Campus Safety will review the application and assign you a permit number. Once a number has been assigned your parking permit will be placed in your on-campus post office box within 48 hours. Please note that permits for applications completed prior to the start of the academic year will be in your mailboxes on opening day. Transportation Transportation from Manchester Airport (MHT), Logan Airport (BOSTON), and South Station in Boston is available through: Thomas Transportation 1-(800) 526-8143 Bull Dog Transportation 1-(800) 567-1934 It is recommended that you notify these services at least 48 hours prior to travel. Employment We also offer employment opportunities to students throughout the academic year. Positions available include student dispatcher, residential safety officer, student driver, student traffic officers and van/bus cleaners.
