The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre

The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre The Wellington Hospital North Building The Wellington Hospital South Building Platinum Medical Centre Welcome It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre in Golders Green, London. The centre opened in May 2007 to provide local high-quality healthcare to patients in North London and the surrounding areas. Since then, the centre has grown rapidly and whereas initially we occupied the ground floor of Roman House, now we have expanded to encompass the first floor and, due to its popularity, there are plans for further expansion in the near future. Contents The Centre pg 4 Our Credentials pg 5 Our Services and Specialties pg 6 The Pain Management Centre pg 8 Imaging and Diagnostics pg 9 The Wellington Hospital pg 10 How to Find Us pg 11 The centre provides private family general practice care and consultant care in a variety of specialities. It has state-of-the-art imaging, together with non-invasive facilities for patients with heart problems. Digital breast screening has just been introduced as has a pain management service and most recently, we have partnered with one of our sister facilities - The Lister Hospital - to provide a reproductive medicine service. We are dedicated to continually providing a top-class service, so education is one of our key priorities at the centre. Each month my colleagues and I offer a lecture based educational programme with a different speaker and topic for GPs and medical professionals in the local community and beyond to attend. We are always open to any suggestions about how we can improve our services further for you and your family, and we welcome your feedback. Dr David Lipkin Dr Lipkin is Medical Director for The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre and a Consultant Cardiologist with many years of senior clinical and healthcare experience. His role as Medical Director encompasses aspects of clinical governance and excellence, as well as providing cardiology outpatient diagnostics and treatments as part of the cardiology services. The Centre Our Credentials The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre, located in the leafy suburb of Golders Green, opened in 2007. Since then it has proved a popular choice for those living in the North London area who want fast access to GPs and consultants covering all forms of medicine for all the family. Cleanliness and Quality Accreditation We are committed to providing the very highest standards of care, at all times. The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre is registered, licensed, and also regularly inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC): the health and social care regulator for England. We take our responsibilities for infection control very seriously and have implemented a strict infection control regime, as well as a thorough environmental cleaning procedure, which has reduced the risk of infection to very low levels. Our Staff, Nurses and Consultants Both The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre and The Wellington Hospital have attracted and retained a wonderfully caring team of nursing and support staff who are dedicated to making sure each patient has the best possible care. At The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre, you and your family have fast access to first-class facilities that are normally only available at a large hospital some distance away. This contemporary facility covers a wide range of specialties, including cardiology (with cardiac outpatient testing), paediatrics, gastroenterology, ENT, dermatology and neurology, supported by state-of-the-art imaging services including MRI, CT, X-ray and a premium performance ultrasound. In 2011, the centre expanded to include a further nine consulting rooms, day surgery facilities, a digital breast screening service, reproductive medicine and a pain management centre. If further treatment or admission is necessary, the centre is supported by The Wellington Hospital, revered for its international reputation for excellence in acute and surgical care, and The Portland Hospital for Women & Children, for patients 16 and under. As part of HCA International, The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre offers rapid direct access, and referral, to all HCA support services, such as our vast cancer care services. At The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre you can be guaranteed expertise expected of an internationally renowned hospital, along with the familiarity and friendliness of a local facility. The Wellington Hospital has also gained accreditation from CHKS, the leading independent provider of quality improvement services to the NHS (National Health Service) and the independent healthcare sector. This accreditation process has enabled the hospital to review and improve its key processes and focus what we do to improve outcomes for our patients. As a result, patient outcomes at the hospital rank among the best for any hospital in the UK. We provide a programme of continuous professional development for all our nursing staff, ensuring they remain up to date with the latest medical developments from around the world. Our Consultants Referral to a consultant at The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre provides the reassurance of knowing that your treatment and care plan have been thoroughly considered, discussed and agreed with an experienced specialist. All consultants who work at the centre must apply for practising privileges. To gain these privileges the consultant must meet strict criteria; this means you can be sure that only the very finest consultants will be taking care of you. Currently, 70 of the UK s leading specialists work at The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre and this number continues to grow. Many of our eminent consultants are also involved in ground-breaking medical research or helping to train the next generation of doctors. The Pain Management Centre Imaging and Diagnostics The Pain Management Centre at The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre (WDOC) offers a comprehensive range of services for patients with pain. Whether chronic or acute, pain is a complex medical problem that can have profound effects on the physical and mental well-being of patients. Our goal at the centre is to help decrease levels of pain and suffering, and help our patients to return to their maximum level of functioning, whilst restoring their quality of life. Acute pain may occur as a result of an injury or medical illness and when the injury/illness resolves the pain will settle down. But before this, controlling the pain is a very important part of the treatment. This can be achieved by a range of techniques, including medication and image-guided injections, and our expert team can offer expert treatment in this area. Facilities Our Pain Management Suite offers our patients the highest standards of care. They are looked after in a calm and relaxed atmosphere provided by our experienced theatre staff from both The Wellington Hospital and the WDOC. Chronic pain is much more complex and usually refers to people who have had the same pain lasting for more than six months. The prolonged nature of the pain will have other adverse effects on the sufferer, including attempts to avoid the pain by becoming less physically active. This can lead to loss of fitness and muscle weakness (muscle deconditioning) which can cause progressive fatigue. With time this will affect the person s mental well-being. The Team Chronic pain can be effectively treated by our specialist multi-disciplinary team based at The Wellington Diagnostics and Outpatients Centre, which includes: Pain Management Consultants Rheumatologists Sports & Exercise Medicine Specialists Physiotherapists Psychologists Psychiatrists State-of-the-art imaging and diagnostics are vital for improving outcomes for all patients. We invest in the latest equipment so that our consultants can identify and diagnose conditions quickly and with accuracy, and our patients can begin treatment as soon as possible. undertaken at the centre.
