Parents and Family Orientation Because parents and families need orienting too. Sure, your student will need your help during move-in day, but what else do we have in store for parents and families during orientation? Plenty! You can get your financial aid and insurance questions answered, learn about our active Parents Association, take campus tours, and meet your student s faculty and staff, plus much more! Events listed in red are especially for our new transfer students and their families. This schedule is tentative. Times and locations may change. A pocket-sized schedule will be provided at Orientation. Parents and Families of New Students Friday, August 24, 2018 Noon WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME! Campus is officially open to welcome new students and their families. When you arrive on campus, you will be greeted by staff who will help you navigate traffic and get you where you need to be. Resident Assistants and Sophomore Advisors (as well as a few VIP s) will assist you and your student in unpacking the car and moving items to their residence hall rooms. Let the fun begin! Residence Hall Check-In Resident students will check in at the student s assigned residence hall. A tour will depart every fifteen minutes beginning at 2:00 p.m. 3:00 5:00 p.m. Rose-Hulman Legacy Event Alumni Center, Hatfield Hall The legacy event is open to all new students that have a parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt, or uncle that graduated from Rose-Hulman. Stop by and pick up your special swag bag and snap a family photo. Get advice from students who also transferred to Rose- Hulman and ask any questions you may have about Rose-Hulman. 5:30 6:45 p.m. Transfer Student Dinner with Student Leaders Faculty/Staff Dining Room, MU 208, Mussallem Union Transfer students and their family members are invited to enjoy dinner with upper-class students. There is no cost to attend this dinner, but you must RSVP. Please RSVP using the link sent to your student via email. Parents and families should feel free to leave early to attend the Parents Association meeting that will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Lake Room located on the lower level of the lobby.
4:45 6:00 p.m. Dinner Your Choice While your student enjoys his/her first floor dinner with new friends, check out the many dining options Terre Haute has to offer. Get to know other parents and have fun playing Bingo for great Rose-Hulman prizes. Check back later this summer for a list of all participating offices and services. 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Orientation Picnic Make your reservations to attend this campus-wide picnic. Enjoy food, games, and photos with your student. Online reservations will be available on the Orientation website in July. You will then pick up your tickets when you arrive on campus for move-in. Please note, you do not have to purchase a ticket for your student. 1:15 p.m. President s Welcoming Address and Installation Ceremony Hulbert Arena, Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) President James Conwell, PhD, PE, will deliver welcoming remarks to the new students and their families. The Class of 2022 and their families will be installed and officially become members of the Rose-Hulman Family. Immediately following Class of 2022 Bagpipe Procession and Family Celebration Spend a few minutes with your student before they join the Class of 2022 bagpipe procession from the SRC to the start of their new adventure. After you watch your student leave, mingle with fellow families and administrators while enjoying sparkling cider before you depart campus.
