Parents and Family Orientation Because parents and families need orienting too. Sure, your student will need your help during move-in day, but what else do we have in store for parents and families during orientation? Plenty! You can get your financial aid and insurance questions answered, learn about our active Parents Association, take campus tours, and meet your student s faculty and staff, plus much more! Events listed in red are especially for our new transfer students and their families. This schedule is tentative. Times and locations may change. A pocket-sized schedule will be provided at Orientation. Parents and Families of New Students Friday, August 24, 2018 Noon WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME! Campus is officially open to welcome new students and their families. When you arrive on campus, you will be greeted by staff who will help you navigate traffic and get you where you need to be. Resident Assistants and Sophomore Advisors (as well as a few VIP s) will assist you and your student in unpacking the car and moving items to their residence hall rooms. Let the fun begin! Residence Hall Check-In Resident students will check in at the student s assigned residence hall. Transfer Student Check-In Welcome and Information Tent, Mussallem Union Lawn Transfer students should check in and pick up their information packets and fun goodies! Stop by and grab a quick complimentary bite to eat before you make your way to various open houses, the bookstore, or take a tour.

Have questions? Orientation leaders will be at the tent to answer questions about Orientation and Rose-Hulman! Noon 4:30 p.m. Rose-Hulman Bookstore Bookstore, MU 122, Mussallem Union Purchase Rose-Hulman apparel, school supplies, decorations for you residence hall room, and books. The Bookstore is located on the lower level of the Mussallem Union. Student Financial Aid Financial Aid Office, H 104, Hadley Hall Staff will answer any questions that you have concerning financial aid. Student Financial Services Business Office, A102, Moench Hall Staff will answer any questions that you have about your invoice and to take payments. Student Insurance Services B 109, Moench Hall Get your questions answered concerning RHIT student health insurance. Noon 5:00 p.m. Center for Diversity & Inclusion Open House Center for Diversity & Inclusion, Mussallem Union Meet the director and her staff. Check out the Center which includes space for students to relax or study between classes. Learn more about the exciting calendar of events, the phenomenal Diversity Speakers Series, and many other unique campus initiatives. Parents Association Information Table Tent, Mussallem Union Lawn Stop by the Parents Association tent to get a snow cone and get information from experienced parents. 1:00 4:00 p.m. Academic Department Open Houses Locations and a map are located in your packet. Stop by the various academic departments on campus and meet faculty and the administrative assistants who will spend much time with your student. 1:00 5:00 p.m. Office of the Registrar Open House A 218, Moench Hall Staff will address questions pertaining to transfer credit, any advanced credit, fall schedules, and enrollment verification. 2:00 5:00 p.m. Campus Tours Welcome and Information Tent, Mussallem Union Lawn Tours of the campus will be given by upper-class students. A tour will depart every fifteen minutes beginning at 2:00 p.m. 3:00 5:00 p.m. Rose-Hulman Legacy Event Alumni Center, Hatfield Hall The legacy event is open to all new students that have a parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt, or uncle that graduated from Rose-Hulman. Stop by and pick up your special swag bag and snap a family photo. A gift will be available for alumni family members too! 3:45 4:30 p.m. Information for Parents and Families on Rose-Hulman Men s Greek Life Kahn Rooms, MU 233, Mussallem Union RHIT Greeks will be on hand to describe the system to you and answer questions you may have. 4:00 4:30 p.m. Transfer Student ID Pictures Office of Student Affairs, MU 145, Mussallem Union Stop by to get your Rose-Hulman student ID photo taken. 4:45 5:30 p.m. Transfer Student Panel Session Heritage Room, MU 265, Mussallem Union This panel session is designed specifically for transfer students and their parents/families. Get advice from students who also transferred to Rose- Hulman and ask any questions you may have about Rose-Hulman. 5:30 6:45 p.m. Transfer Student Dinner with Student Leaders Faculty/Staff Dining Room, MU 208, Mussallem Union Transfer students and their family members are invited to enjoy dinner with upper-class students. There is no cost to attend this dinner, but you must RSVP. Please RSVP using the link sent to your student via email. Parents and families should feel free to leave early to attend the Parents Association meeting that will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Lake Room located on the lower level of the lobby.

4:45 6:00 p.m. Dinner Your Choice While your student enjoys his/her first floor dinner with new friends, check out the many dining options Terre Haute has to offer. Information on local restaurants can be found in the packet you received at check-in. 6:00 7:30 p.m. Parents Association Meeting Kahn Room, MU 233, Mussallem Union Meet representatives from the Parents Association and learn about the organization that helps plan and organize various activities throughout the year such as Fall Family Weekend. 7:30 7:30 p.m. Mocktail Meet & Greet Lobby, Mussallem Union Before heading to Parents Bingo, grab a mocktail and meet other new parents. This event is sponsored by the Parents Association. 8:00 p.m. Parents Bingo Vonderschmitt Dining Room, MU 216, Mussallem Union Saturday August 25, 2018 Year after year, this is one of the favorite events of Orientation! Get to know other parents and have fun playing Bingo for great Rose-Hulman prizes. Light refreshments will also be served. 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Rose-Hulman Bookstore Bookstore, MU 122, Mussallem Union Purchase Rose-Hulman apparel, school supplies, decorations for you residence hall room, and books. The Bookstore is located on the lower level of the Mussallem Union. 9:00 9:45 a.m. Parents Orientation Session Student Life at Rose-Hulman 10:00 10:45 a.m. Hulbert Arena, Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) 9:00-9:45 a.m. (Parents and families with last names A-L) 10:00-10:45 a.m. (Parents and families with last names M-Z) Vice President and Dean of Students, Mr. Erik Hayes, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Anne Houtman, and Dean of Faculty, Dr. Russell Warley will provide an overview of the support your student will receive at Rose-Hulman. Time will be allotted for Dean Hayes, Dr. Houtman, and Dr. Warley to take questions from the audience. Please attend your assigned session to ensure an interactive and engaging experience.

Check back later this summer for a list of all participating offices and services. 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Orientation Picnic Make your reservations to attend this campus-wide picnic. Enjoy food, games, and photos with your student. Online reservations will be available on the Orientation website in July. You will then pick up your tickets when you arrive on campus for move-in. Please note, you do not have to purchase a ticket for your student. 1:15 p.m. President s Welcoming Address and Installation Ceremony Hulbert Arena, Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) President James Conwell, PhD, PE, will deliver welcoming remarks to the new students and their families. The Class of 2022 and their families will be installed and officially become members of the Rose-Hulman Family. Immediately following Class of 2022 Bagpipe Procession and Family Celebration Spend a few minutes with your student before they join the Class of 2022 bagpipe procession from the SRC to the start of their new adventure. After you watch your student leave, mingle with fellow families and administrators while enjoying sparkling cider before you depart campus.
