Message from the Director, Rose Swidan Happy summer and happy 4th of July! Now that summer is officially here, remember to make an extra effort to protect yourself from the sun, with a hat and sunscreen and keep hydrated. We have excellent programs available for you this summer. Remember to sign up for any programs you are interested in. if you are part of the Silver sneakers program, you can go to our beautiful RAC and swim for free. It is great exercise without the pain on your joint. Don t forget to join us for the ice-cream social with the Mayor on the 17th at 11:30 am. Also, I would like to invite you to join me for chair exercise class 10.30 am every Friday. Please remember if you are interested in the Project Fresh coupons and you did not get any last year, stop by and fill out your application. We only have 20 available for Romulus. There are so many summertime events in our community and you re invited! The Romulus Farmers Market is open for the season from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at the Romulus Historical Park Pavilion, 11147 Hunt St., in the city s Downtown area. The market will be open Wednesdays through September 26, except for July 4. I m told there typically are 15 to 20 vendors most of them from Romulus and a special theme each week. Bonus Markets will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, July 7, August 11 and September 1. The Sounds of Downtown is a series of concerts held at 7 p.m. Fridays in Romulus Historical Park. The music changes each concert and all performances are free. Bring your own seating (lawn chairs and blankets are recommended). Movies in the Park is a free series of once-a-month family-friendly films that start at dusk at the Historical Park. Coming soon: Disney Pixar Coco on July 20 and Jumanji on August 17. The movies are shown in drive-in fashion on a huge screen. Thanks to all the staff that organize these special events in the city and special thanks to our event sponsors that help allow us to host activities. By the way, the annual flea market hosted by the Romulus Historical Society is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 7, also at Historical Park. For more info, call (734) 941-6361.
