COLGATE S GREEN LIVING PROGRAM
Mission To promote individual sustainable behavior at Colgate University in a fun and competitive way by providing a green living rating system, online resources, and how-to-guides.
Program Goals: Why Participate? Colgate s Green Living Program is a great way to raise awareness around issues of sustainability in residential halls. The Program is a fun and competitive way for Colgate to reduce it s greenhouse gas emissions and ecological footprint. The Program proposes real solutions to everyday challenges. The Program provides online support, resources, and tools to aid Colgate students in their pursuit to be more sustainable The Program illustrates that small personal actions can result in big outcomes. Upon completion of the program, your living space will be officially recognized as a Green Living Certified Space.
HOW DOES THE GREEN LIVING PROGRAM WORK?
How does it work? STEP 1. Review this presentation and our website (see link below) to familiarize yourself with the Green Living Program.
STEP 2. You officially register yourself by filling out the online registration form. See link below. The Sustainability Office will welcome you to the program and send you a link to our online checklist that highlights green living practices. How does it work?
How does it work? NEED TO KNOW: Once registered, you have 1 month to complete the Green Living Checklist.
STEP 3. Shortly after signing up for the program, you will be contacted by your Eco-Rep. Your Eco-Rep will be your go-to person if you have questions about the program, are interested in joining a green group on campus or have any other questions about sustainability. How does it work?
The Role of the Eco-Rep: The Eco-Rep serves as ambassador to all students in their residential hall looking to go green. It is the responsibility of the Eco-Rep to recruit, introduce students to the program, and help them participate in the program. The Eco-Rep must also attend hour long weekly meetings, maintain the residential hall s Eco-Board and help coordinate the Green Cup, a month long first year residence hall competition in the spring semester to raise awareness about more sustainable living practices. TIP: Get to know your Eco-Rep! Visit the Green Living Program webpage (listed below) to access your Eco-Rep s biography, photo and email contact.
STEP 4. You implement green practices. How does it work?
STEP 5. You complete the online checklist. TIP: If you are having difficulty filling out the checklist, do not hesitate to contact your Eco-Rep or consult the on-line checklist tutorial, accessible from the Green Living Program s webpage. NEED TO KNOW: How does it work? There are different certification schemes depending on whether your residence has a kitchen. If you live in a first or second year residence hall, proceed to the next slide If you live in a living space with a kitchen, such as an apartment, themed house or townhouse, skip the next slide
Green Rating Scoring System* (res halls w/o kitchens): 45-60pts= Oak Leaf One Certified Green Living Space! Congratulations! 61-75pts= Oak Leaf Two Certified Green Living Space! Most impressive! 76-90pts= Oak Leaf Three Certified Green Living Space! Stupendous dedication! 90-109pts= Oak Leaf Four Certified Green Living Space! Incredible accomplishment true planetary hero! * Green Living Certification does not require a formal audit, although certification status is subject to periodic review.

How does it work? Successful individuals will receive an official Green Living Certificate which will be fixed to their door celebrating their commitment and accomplishment and will be acknowledged on the campus sustainability website and in other publications.
STEP 6. Email your Eco- Rep once you have completed the checklist of green living practices. How does it work? Your Green Living Certification is good for one year, and is renewable annually through the same process.
