FEBRUARY 2017 News Letter,Issue 06 EDI-TN NEWS The Monthly Diary of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute,Government of TamilNadu DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE EDI, Tamilnadu has proposed to organise Annual MSME Summit on 13th & 14th May 2017 at Chennai Trade Centre as a state level event. The Annual MSME Summit is planned as part of the EDI strategic plan 2016-2021 for promotion of Entrepreneurship & Innovation in the state of Tamil Nadu. The prime objective of this event is to recognise, award & celebrate successful entrepreneurs, and create an aspirational entrepreneurship culture in the State. The events will highlight entrepreneurship opportunities, presentations by successful entrepreneurs & start-up innovators from across the State. The summit will allow MSME and startup ecosystem in the State to outline their roles and plans for entrepreneurs. The summit will consist of exhibition stalls, plenary sessions, panel discussions, break away sessions on various MSME relevant subjects, Buyer-Seller meet, Awards for various MSME segments and many more. Entrepreneurs & start-up innovators from across the State, MSMEs, Colleges, Incubators, angel & VC investors, Banks, Youth from colleges and schools, NEEDS, PMEGP & UYEGP alumni are expected to participate in the event. MADITTSIA FOOD TECH FEB 2017,AT MADURAI Director EDI presided over the valedictory session of MADITTSIA Foodtech 2017, a 4 day exhibition of food technology, food processing machinery and food products. Very innovative machines like Onion, garlic peeling machines of 100 to 500 kg per hour manufactured at Usilampatti were featured. Over 38000 persons attended the fair,of which about 8000 were small and micro entrepreneurs. Director EDI gave away prizes to the awardees.
Page 02 IMPACT-A-PRENEUR QUEST 2016, A PITCH CONTEST HOSTED FOR INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURS Impact-a-preneur Quest 2016, a pitch contest hosted for Innovative Entrepreneurs with business that have a social impact / Unconvention Chennai event was conducted on at Chennai 1st February, 2017 by Villgro and TiE Chennai and the event was supported by Entrepreneurship Development Institute. Unconvention Chennai is a part of a series of seven events being organized by Vilgro all over India. Mobitech Wireless Solution and Monc were recognized and awarded for Impact a preneur Quest. EDI is considering a grant of Rupees Three Lakhs under 'Seed Capital Assistance' to the competition winners of this event. TAHDCO PRE LOAN AWARENESS TRAINING ENTERPRISE CLINIC MONTHLY NETWORK MEET EDI and TAHDCO Jointly organised 1st Pre-Loan awareness training programme for TAHDCO beneficiaries at EDI, TN Auditorium Chennai -32 on 09.02.2017. Thiru K. Rajaraman IAS, Principal Secretary/Director, EDI, Thiru Kumar Jayant I.A.S, Managing Director, TAHDCO presides over the function and given the special address, Tmt Shajeevana, Addtinal Director, EDI has given welcome address and Deputy Director, DM TAHDCO, Training coordinator, EDI is given speech, 38 beneficiaries have attended the training. EDI and BYST has jointly conducted Entrepreneurship Clinic on 9.2.17 from 3.00 pm to 5.30 pm, where 38 budding and existing entrepreneurs have attended and got benefited. Mentor from BYST and Deputy Director, EDI has interacted with entrepreneurs and guided them to proceed for next level. EDI and TIE-Chennai jointly organised monthly Entrepreneur Network meet at EDI, Chennai-32 today at 4-5.30 pm, 22 entrepreneurs participated and this programme also broadcast was made as live webinar on Essential skills required for 21st Century Entrepreneur.
Page 03 INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY FAIR 2017, DELHI EDI, Chennai participated the International Engineering & Technology Fair 2017 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. EDI had taken a stall in which EDI supported incubators were given oppurtunities to demonstrate their Products/Technologies for Commercialisation, an oppurtunity & platform created by EDI, Chennai. Startups from IIT, Chennai & KCT demonstrated to the visitors. The Innovative products were 1. I Farmer Robot for Agri Solution (Spraying, Seeding & monitoring plant health. 2. Fertiliser Carrying Membrane (FCM) 3. Straw Reinforced Mineral Acoustic Board 4. Air Purifier. The participants were able to generate business and got opportunities to establish their marketing network for their innovative products/technology. ZED AWARENESS AT HOSUR ZED AWARENESS AT SALEM ZED AWARENESS AT TRICHY The program on ZED was conducted by Hosur Small and Tiny Industries Association (HOSTIA) on 11.02.2017 at Hotel Peppermint, Hosur from 11.00 A.M. to 2.00 P.M... The program was attended by 46 participants from various MSME units. The program was inaugurated by Mr. V. Gnanasekaran, President, HOSTIA. The faculty Mr. M.P.Jayakumar, a QCI certified trainer, explained the ZED scheme and the various parameters in the ZED Maturity Assessment Model. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. M.Padmanabhan, Secretary, HOSTIA. The program was coordinated by Mr. K. Balakrishnan, Training Coordinator, EDI. The program on ZED was conducted by Salem Dist.Small Scale & Tiny Industries Association(SADISSTIA) at SPC Bhawan, Salem on 13.02.2017 from 4.00 P.M. to 7.00 P.M... There were 51 participants from various MSME units. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Er.K.Mariappan, President, SADISSTIA. The faculty Mr. M.P.Jayakumar, a QCI certified trainer, explained the ZED scheme and the various parameters in the ZED Maturity Assessment Model. The vote of thanks was given by the Secretary, SADISSTIA. The program was coordinated by Dr. E.Bhaskaran, Dy.Director, EDI. The program on ZED was conducted by BHEL Small and Medium Industries Association (BHELSIA) at BIDAAS Maxi Hall, Thuvakudi, Trichy on 21.02.2017 from 10.30 A.M. to 1.30 P.M... The program was attended by 33 participants from various BHEL manufacturing units. The program was inaugurated by Mr. S. Ashok Sundaresan, President, BHELSIA. The faculty Mr. M.P.Jayakumar, a QCI certified trainer, explained the ZED scheme and the various parameters in the ZED Maturity Assessment Model. Page 04 STRATEGIES FOR BIO-TECH ENTREPRENEURS EDI and Anna University Bio technology centre (UIC Biotechnology) jointly conducted a 2-day workshop on Strategies for Bio-tech entrepreneurs for Deans & Professors of Biotech colleges and Bio Tech entrepreneurs at Anna University during 1-2, Feb, 2017. Principal Secretary/Director inaugurated the workshop on 1st Feb, 2017. Aim of the programme was to promote bio-economy by facilitating entrepreneurship in Biotechnology, disseminate funding mechanism such as BIRAC schemes and to support startups and also to link up Bio-tech venture capital sources. 22 participants took part in the programme. STARTUP ACTIVATION PROGRAMME EDI, KCT-FORGE jointly launched the regional Startup Activation Programme in 5 regional Hubs namely, Anna University, Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore, Sastra University, Thanjavur, Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai and Sona College of Technology, Salem. KCT & Forge are coordinating the programme. The programme is being implemented in 4 stages viz-a-viz startup Seminar series, Startup Launcher, Startup BootCamp plus DemoDay and Forge.Fellows. The programme is aimed at creating actionable awareness among students, so that they can sharpen their technical, innovation and entrepreneurship skills and attempt to solve real-world problems, building products and operating a startup company. From each region 5 best teams will be selected for a 2-day boot camp at FORGE. Top 10 teams among them will be shortlisted for the grande finale DemoDay on the third day and will undergo comprehensive pitch training and guidance at FORGE. Top 3 teams will have the chance of getting FORGE fellow programme which includes mentoring and seed capital. It will be held during March 23rd 25th 2017. The entire programme will spread from Feb to 25th March, 2017.

TAHDCO EDP TRAINING EDI organised EDP training programme for TAHDCO beneficiaries at EDI, Chennai -32 from 15-21 Feb 2017. 25 beneficiaries have attended the training. TAHDCO PRE LOAN AWARENESS TRAINING One day TAHDCO pre awareness loan programme held at RSETI, Perambalur on 17.2.17 where District Manager, TAHDCO, Director, RSETI, Indian Overseas Bank and Deputy Director, EDI have spoken about their respective Departments and interacted with 42 participants and distributed the participation certificates

TAHDCO POST EDP TRAINING Six days post EDP for TAHDCO beneficiaries held at RSETI, Perambalur on 17.2.17 where District Manager, TAHDCO, Director, RSETI, Indian Overseas Bank and Deputy Director, EDI have spoken about their respective Departments and interacted with participants.
Page 07 DIGITAL PAYMENT TRAINING FOR SMALL BUSINESS Digital Payment for Small Business" held on 23.02.2017 ( 3 to 6 pm )at EDI, old building Chennai. It is an awareness programme to highlight various products launched by Govt of India for digital payments. Sri. T.Sahoo, Senior Manager (faculty),bank of Baroda academy, Chennai made presentation on the topic with two other officials from their bank. They have also brought a POS machine and explained how the same is used. Sri. Vinod Kuriakose, State Head Operations, CSC e-governance services India Ltd, Ministry of Communication & information Technology made a presentation on the topic for 45 minutes with Video visuals. GOODS SERVICE TAX (GST) TRAINING Goods Service Tax(GST)" held on 21.02.2017 ( 3 to 6 pm )at EDISSIA, Erode,It is an awareness programme to highlight various regulations of Goods Service Tax(GST) announced by Govt of India

NEEDS EDP TRAINING EDI & TIE, Chennai jointly organising NEEDS EDP training programme at EDI, Chennai-32 from 27.02.2017 to 31.03.20107, 80 participants have attended the training.
