Project Title: Short Title / ID: Status: Start Date: End Date: Duration (# months): Countries: Hazards: Themes: Objectives: Activities: Aitutaki Disaster Risk Management Plan Completed 2010-Jan-01 2011-Dec-01 None Cook Islands Fire; Cyclone; Tsunami; Drought Capacity Development; Community-based DRR; Disaster Risk Management Establish a DRM Committee for the Island of Aitutaki to seek the achievement of "a safe, secure and resilient community" as stipulated in Goal 6 of the Cook Islands National Sustainable Development Plan. a) Each Island Council shall establish a DRM Committee b) The Mayor of the Council shall chair the Committee c) Each Island Council shall appoint four other suitably experienced or qualified members to the Committee d) Each Island Council shall appoint a Disaster Coordinator to implement a DRM Plan, and to coordinate resources to be used in Response and Recovery in his area of responsibility e) The Committee will prepare and maintain a DRM Plan for its area of responsibility f) Each DRM Plan shall specify the mitigation strategies to be adopted to reduce the risks of a Disaster and Emergency identify resources available for use for DRR and Emergency Management Specify how such resources are to be used g) The Committee shall cooperate with all other Committees established under this Act If an event occurs in the Outer Islands, the Disaster Controller has the powers of the National Controller for that area of responsibility Outputs: The Aitutaki Island DRM Committee is satisfactorily established. Each organization/member of the community is well aware of their responsibilities in the event of a disaster.
